Today, Spotify is finally rolling out its real-time lyrics feature globally, after previously only offering it in a limited selection of countries.

The lyrics themselves are provided by Musixmatch, which claims to offer lyrics for “over 8 million” titles. and will be accessible on basically every platform where Spotify has an app. This includes iOS, Android, desktop computers, gaming consoles, and smart TVs. The feature is available to both free and premium listeners.

As well as using the lyrics to sing along yourself, there’s also a social element which allows you to share lyrics to social media. Spotify says the feature will be available across the “majority” of its music library.

So my kid has been using Spotify $11.99/mo for a while now. A couple of months ago my wife started using it ... $11.99/mo. So today I signed up for Spotify Family $15.99/mo which will cancel those 2 bills. Got 1 month free. As a bonus I also have a spotify now. Listening to it. Not bad. Right now listening to 80s hits channel. They are playing "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees. Not sure how that is 80s but still good song. Next: "Dancing Queen" by Abba. 80s music programmed by a 17 year old.

I am told there is no way to ban music. So I could be subjected to nameless horses.

My son build's his own playlists. My wife listens to specialty channels such as Tom Cochrane Radio (songs picked by Tom Cochrane). So far I am listening to their 80s list. Aside from having 70s and 90s stuff in it, it is a pretty nice list. But it is only a hundred songs. They are all recognizable but maybe a bit deeper than FM.

Same, but with MP3s

And ain't that scary! My 80s playlist has over 1000 songs. But whatever you do, Spotify (Pandora, etc), don't play a song everyone hasn't already heard a zillion effin times!!
It's their out of the box playlist. I am going to create my own 80s one.

That's pretty accurate except numbers are pretty constant through 1985 then fall off sharply. I do have a spike in 1980.

Rated songs by year:
1980: 218
1981: 149
1982: 130
1983: 155
1984: 126
1985: 131
1986: 65

For reference:
1977: 79
1978: 157
1979: 197

I never would have thought 1980 would have been my peak.
