In the middle of being chewed out for daring to make extra cash, Sal explained to Howard about his seven maxed out credit cards, his pile of growing bills, etc. Richard added that all they were trying to do is to make enough to cut website expenses. Unfazed by this, Stern continues to tell him how selling products cheapens his show. No, Howard - asking fans to pay for the show you don't care much about , and prioritizing HTV cheapens your show plenty.
Howard may not have sold T-shirts, but when he was at NBC, he did road shows quite a bit. One venue he continually ran was at Club Bene in Sayreville, NJ. I attended one of these shows, and it wasn't free, that's for sure. The show I attended took place in between his firing at NBC and his hiring at KROCK. He also made tapes around that time (Butt Bongo, U.S. Open Sores) which were endlessly plugged throughout the show. Throw in the fictional flop Private Parts, the books, the albums, and the different covers on both just to squeeze more cash from his audience, and you've got someone who's fleeced his audience more than Imus, Rush, and every other DJ combined. By the way, did anyone ever get the golden ticket from the Private Parts soundtrack yet?
Howard should be embarrased that his writing staff on what he calls the greatest radio show ever lives in poverty, but being the type of person he is, he couldn't care less. . Sal would be better off quitting and finding another line of work. At least then he would be able to provide for his family. He should be ashamed of himself. He's basically depriving his children of things just to work his ass off at "the best job in the world" for his cheap, bony boss. What an asshole. No wonder his wife bangs guys she works with.
