SL100 PC Connection through home dock?

I couldn't find my USB cable for my S100 this weekend, so I tried connecting the USB port on the home dock to my laptop, and it never saw the Stiletto. Should this work? If not, what is the USB port for on the home dock?

I seem to remember a button on the dock you had yo push to get the usb to initiate.
Also maybe the usb cable's plastic end is to big to let the mini usb plug in all the way.

i believe you have to use the sync button right on the front of the dock
