All of this music talk has been great. Best-of lists. One hit wonders. B-sides. Hated songs. I love it.

Here's my replacement for the completed "top 333 fav songs of all ever" thread.

My MP3 collection has over 3000 artists. For each one I can confidently say I like five of their songs, I'll drop a post here.

Starting with...

10 Years

Genre: heavy rock/nu metal/post grunge

Discovered: Probably radio. Their first major label single went to #1 on the Rock Chart. And it's still my fav from them.

Other: My band opened for them twice in 2010, once with Shinedown, Sevendust, Chevelle & Puddle Of Mudd, then again with Sevendust.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Wasteland
2. Actions & Motives
3. Shoot It Out
4. Seasons To Cycle
5. Miscellanea

10,000 Maniacs

Genre: "alt-pop-soft-rock" (in other words, they were originally alt/college soft-rock, but their sound got popular and became mainstream)

Discovered: I heard "Trouble Me" in a small record shop in Concord NH circa 1989/1990.

Other: I've shared this elsewhere, but when the original main songwriter quit, the band took off. When he returned, they stopped having success.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Trouble Me
2. These Are Days
3. What's The Matter Here?
4. Because The Night (Live)
5. Candy Everybody Wants

16Volt.jpg

16 Volt

Genre: industrial rock

Discovered: A friend

Other: Despite the main guy's father having worked for a record label at one point, he insists that did nothing whatsoever to help him in his 30 year career in the music business: "My father is the executive of nothing but failures and abandonment. He did work at an indie label for a while — before he was no doubt exposed as a pathological liar and an alcoholic."

HIGH FIVE:

1. Cloth Like Gauze
2. Dreams That Rot In Your Heart
3. Burn
4. Keep Sleeping
5. Two Wires Thin

1975

Genre: alt-pop-rock

HIGH FIVE:

1. Sex (EP Version)
2. The City
3. Girls
4. Settle Down
5. If You're Too Shy

2 Live Crew

Genre: hip hop/rap

Discovered: Friend bought the "Me So Horny" cassingle just out of curiosity about the title of the song.

Other: These guys basically brought audio pornography into the mainstream.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Me So Horny (I prefer the clean/radio version over the album version)
2. Coolin'
3. Bad Ass Bitch
4. Dick Almighty
5. Ugly As Fuck

Other: Not a big fan, but they've got a handful of good songs.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Grandma Dynamite
2. Spyz Dope
3. Jungle Boogie
4. Waiting For The Sun
5. Stuntman

3 Doors Down

Genre: rock, hard rock

Discovered: My cousin's girlfriend said she liked "Kryptonite" when it came out, so I grabbed it from Napster (much to Dr Dre and Lars Ulrich's dismay) and listened to it.

Other: Another band I'm not a big fan of, but they've got a handful of good songs. Also, an example of a band where my 3 favorite songs weren't their bigger hits (the other two were though).

HIGH FIVE:

1. Train
2. The Broken
3. Duck And Run
4. Loser
5. Kryptonite

Here in the US you couldn't avoid 10,000 Maniacs or 2 Live Crew if you'd tried. Probably just didn't make a splash in Canada...
I would have avoided 2 Live Crew. And 10,000 maniacs just didn't make a splash with me in this thread. I missed them. Let me reprase: 3 Doors down is the SECOND group I have heard music from. I do recognize a couple of names like 2 Live Crew. :)

Finally an artist I recognize.
In parliamentary procedure, recognition is the exclusive right to be heard at that time by a member of a deliberative assembly. With a few exceptions, a member must be recognized by the chairperson.

With that definition, your original post stands. "The floor recognizes 3 Doors Down. The floor does NOT recognize 2 Live Crew!" =)
