Turned on my S50 and it did a Channel update this morning. Looks like a lot of the titles of the channels changed. You might turn on your radio a little earlier as this takes a few minutes to complete.

Ever since mine came back from Sirius who updated the firmware, I have had no logo's. I was not about to refresh it again as at least it is working. Once it breaks again that will be the end of my S50.
I think if XM radio's had internet capability like my SL2, I'd get one of those. Stern was the reason for Sirius.
I just turned my s50 on this morning and got the update. No problem here either with mine. I try not to use my s50 radio too much and run my stiletto 100 most of the time and let it carry the heavy load. I am in the same boat as Me_Rubin. If my s50 goes that it for me. I had to do the update exchange for my original one.
Now on a side note. The reason I turned on my s50 this morning is my stiletto 100 went crazy this morning. It is set to record Howard every morning, but this morning it wouldn't turn on. So I took it out of the home dock and it wouldn't turn on with side button either. So I pulled battery off and put it back in and radio rebooted like normal. Then when it loads all 5 bubbles under the Dog logo it goes straight to shut down. I tried the slim battery and the same effect keeps happening. It loads in then goes straight to shut down.
I called sirius and tech told me its dead and sent me to warranty. Luckily I am only 8 months into owning it so warranty will take care of it. Of course i am getting a refurbished one.
Now my question is has anyone else had this problem? Does a device recovery solve it?
The tech kinda made it out like the update caused the problem and the stiletto 100 didn't take it well. And sent me straight to warranty. So we didn't even try device recovery. He acted like there was nothing he could do. Now it seems plausible that recovery wouldn't work since the unit won't even stay on and goes straight to shut down.
p.s. I did a device recovery on the 100 and it work like a champ. Followed Me_Rubins steps on another thread for stiletto 100 reset. Boy sirius tech are not the brightest. After reading the steps all you need is your unit to at least turn on. Thx Me_Rubin in a round about sort of way.

S50 still going strong

No issues with the updates yesterday, of course it would be nice to have updated graphics and bumpers.

If it makes it to Christmas, I'll have made it through three years on my original S50 with no significant problems. Of course, I never tried to push the envelope and do any heavy-duty recording with it - when I told my wife I wanted Sirius for Christmas in 2005, I didn't think she'd get the most expensive radio they had. I would've been happy with a Sportster or something.

giddyup, same here...guess I got a good one too
My original S50 will turn 3 this December as well, and I have used it to record EVERY SINGLE STERN SHOW SINCE 1-9-06 with very few problems.
I doubt we will ever see new logos or voice tags though. That sucks.

By the way, I wish that they would do channel updates on weekends. They cause havoc on scheduled recordings of the show.

We know this isn't true. In the past, the MSS software would update them. It seems like they're just not supporting the s50 anymore. I emailed them back about it and I'll post when there's an update.
I thought someone back in the day (you, me_rubin) actually wrote a program that would update them outside of the MSS software. I can't get Sirius Backstage to load up (is that site gone now?), so I can't hunt around for the old posts. Good to see the same old characters are here though!
<fingers crossed> Mine is now over four years old of almost continuous use at work, in the car, and while outside. It's got 922 songs on it (mostly punk, if that's cheating so be it). Unfortunately, it's been getting a lot less use since the Punk Channel turned AC/DC, and now finally The Loft.
My S50 (June 2006) is doing fine, and did a channel update yesterday w/no problems.
As for Sirius support for the S50 owners, my expectations are, shall we put it kindly, low.
But I'm going to hang with my unit to the last electron.

The S50 always use to get the channel icons and wallpapers from connecting to the MSS and leaving it connected for 30 minutes or so. Has anyone tried this? I could always tell my by activity light on my desktop if it was actually downloading anything. But this is how the updates happened for the icons and wallpaper on the S50.
Hey all, glad I found this site as I went looking for Backstage and found it dead .... does anyone have the smarts on here to create some new logos and voice tags for the new channel lineups?? I know it can be done cause me s50 has some sweet bikini models on most channels but since the last update some are gone and it just says channel 16 or channel 32 instead of "deep tracks" or "the dead channel...where are all the old radio heads me_rubin??? What happened to Dave??
