Radio Replays...still having issues?

Hi,

I read the earlier thread on this topic and wanted to know if people were still having issues with Radio Replays because I am.

My questions are: Will the unit store radio replays if it is not in a home or car dock (in other words, should it be storing radio replays when you are just walking around with it using satellite mode?) Also, is there a limit of time you need to leave your radio on a station for the radio replay function to kick in?

The other day I noticed it finally seemed to be working, but it was in my car dock for the first time and I am wondering if that is a reason it worked.

My unit is updated with the latest software.

Thanks.

I don't think the signal is strong enough when walking around for it to save a replay. I personally have never seen a replay saved that was less then 15 uninterrupted minutes of the same channel.

I find the replays to be annoying, and I prefer to save 6 hr blocks of my favorite music channels instead of little 15 minute random blocks.

You have to be listening for at least 15 minutes to a Sirius-originating channel (try Sirius Hits 1, this one is definitely Sirius originating) for radio replays to work. Since the channel merge, it doesn't work for many channels, as they do not provide the necessary encoding for the SL2's radio replays function to work. This problem is related to the loved songs problem.

In the past, I've had success with radio replays even when not in the dock. As my preferred channel (80) is not Sirius originating anymore, I've lost both radio replays and loved songs. So, I don't have any recent experience with this.

I no longer use them as they increase the memory corruption issues (IMHO) but I didn't realize that they didn't work on XM originated channels.

One more thing for Sirius to fix with these units.

I have changed to setting up timed recordings for my favorite channels and use them like I use to listen to the radio replays.

I'm pretty sure it's not something on the SL100/S2's that needs to be fixed, but rather a tag on the songs from XM's library. I think the SL100/S2's are seeing these songs tagged/untagged as "TALK" channels/programming, hence the lack of Replays and Love. Someone posted on here that it's a tedious task of fixing it, but that they ARE going through the process. But with less staff, it's probably gonna take awhile.

I agree. But there are whole channels where I can't love any song right now (specifically The Bridge). It will take a while.

Which is really odd, as The Bridge was previously a SIRIUS channel. Is it an XM originated channel now??

If not, it kinda blows a big hole in my theory...

I think it is an DC channel now. My gyess is that eventually they all will be. They seem to be moving staff to the DC/XM offices as well.

The only other explaination is that the channel itself is blocked from loving and they need to reset that.

Bummer, I was hoping that they stayed in New York.
Hey, whatever it takes for them to save some cash keep the doors open.
I just hope they are able to get all of the tagging taken care of before too long.

It has to be a titanic chore.

I think the initial plan was to move everything to NYC. But I bet the economy has pushed them to moving to the building they already own vs. a rental property in New York.

Yes. I think they also realized they would be getting next to nothing from the hoped for sale of the building.

Memory Corruption

Is there any fix for the memory corruption problem? I've had my S100 for two years and always had replays turned on. Now my memory capacity is down to around 60 hours. I've tried the "Reset and Erase" and the full device recovery procedure, but no change. My extended warranty is good until this October, so I'm contemplating sending it in.

BTW, this is a great board.

It is my understanding the memory corruption is unique to the SL2. It was always my understanding that the SL100 was free of this issue.

If it is the same issue, once it starts happening the only solution (although temporary) is a device recovery. Reset + Erase doesn't touch the software which I believe is what gets corrupted.

No fix from Sirius yet ... but its only been 1 year. You have to give them time.

Thanks for the reply IdRatherBeSkiing.

My S100 has definitely lost capacity. Right now I've only got 10 hours recorded and it's showing the memory at 18%. And I know from past experience that when I get near 60 hours it's almost full. And I've done the device recovery procedure but the problem still persists. It might be time to exercise the extended warranty.

Yes, I'm still having radio replay issues as well.

Some channels will not capture to the RR, no matter how perfect a signal, no matter how long I leave them tuned to the station.

The problem is completely intermittent. I've listened to a channel for two or three hours, nothing is captured, switch to another station, come back to the original a few minutes later, and will find that it captured some of it.

It also doesn't have anything to do with Sirius vs. XM original channels, as I have some XM-original channels in my RR list. Some replays are hours and hours long, while others are a few minutes long, and never grow.

I grew frustrated and turned replays off, recording blocks of time from channels to provide the same function. But I stopped doing that due to the irritation of having them come up when I set the unit to Shuffle mode. Nothing like having a 4-hour long "song" come up when you're shuffling the tunes in your library. Clicking the "skip" button doesn't skip the block, it just skips the songs within the block.

One final thing: my RR issues started before the channel merger - somewhere in the autumn of 2008. First time I noticed it was when AC/DC took over Buzzsaw, and Buzzsaw stopped showing up in my RR list.
