I was just given an XM radio and was contemplating whether to come back to XM (with BOS)... so I did the logical thing.... I called "customer service" at XM.

When I left I was promised the sun and the moon to stay ($77 for a year, 6 monts for the price of 3) but decided to move on. So when I queried into getting a promotional deal to come back, I was told 'no'... that there are no deals to bring me back. Also I would have to pay $15 to reactivate my radio on top of no promotional deal.

So I inquired about father's day promotions (given that it is a couple of weeks away). Nope, nothing there either.

How do they expect to get back former members, not to mention attracting new members?

Are there any deals out there that they do not wish to promote that can be used?

Maybe they'll have a promo if you buy a new radio for Father's Day, but I'm not sure. I haven't seen anything about that. There's always a chance you can sweet talk your way out of the activation fee, but that's probably all you'll get on a used rig.

I would keep calling.

I had to call 3 different times to get a year of XM everything for $64 a year.

It took some time, but I got it done.

I used different phone numbers as well.

When you talk to the CSR, ask for the cancellation department. They have much more discession about these things. My guess is at a miniumum they would waive the activation fee. XM Canada sent me several offers after I had cancelled (to go to a US sub) in order to get me back.

So you blew it and now you are pissed that they aren't giving you a better deal?

That $60/year is really going to help the cause!

I agree, but $60 a year times a million people coming back could help some. I wonder how many people have tried. Anyway you can't get mad that they won't offer you a deal now. Just my 2 cents.

Nope... not pissed at all. I was curious as to whether there were deals out there.

The reason for leaving was due to price vs value. I mentioned it at the time... was offered a lot of deals. I was only considering coming back but again the issue is whether the value is there for the price.

As for the "cause" everything in today's economy comes down to cost vs value. That "cause" takes priority over whether the company that has bled money for years makes a few additional dollars off of me as opposed to no revenue at all.

I don't consider no deal "blowing it" at all. I have received letters with offers in it to come back but again they were not honored.

Most likely a rep that is following the current script. No harm done. I figured if they were offering free Stern to get people to sign up they would likely want to get a membership spike for father's day.
