american karaoke is a shining example of what is wrong with the music industry and terrestrial radio.
why is it so popular? turn on your radio, especially to the top 40 station. that music sounds like highly processed, excited and equalized audio shit right? people have forgotten what talent sounds like and are accepting what the music industry is calling "talent". i'm in my 20s and i haven't really listened to anything new since about 2000 because it all sucks. coincidentally, isn't that right around the same time american karaoke started?
True, but it's WORSE! And you're in your 20's?!?!
Yes, maybe it was based on Karaoke.
Like what v1ru5 said, I've seen a couple (maybe 3) shows where the people were "auditioning". It doesn't make sense. Have these people not recorded themselves EVER and listened? Before they go on what they know is a National show??
It's stupid. Staged. And I bailed.
The
only reason why this show succeeds is because they POUR money into PUBLICITY. You've seen it with PAULA, you've seen it with SIMON, you've see it with SEACREST...
it's ridiculous. Publicists keep people in the MEDIA and they become FAMOUS!!! THAT'S what they pay $$$$$$$$$$$$ for!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the show will most likely recoup the benefits. (It's all assessed beforehand and during). It's
planned and it's business. They appeal to the media, that's all!
I hated the show with a passion from the beginning and nothing has changed. The music (many times great music) is sung HORRIBLY, with NO REAL TALENT. They're very much like
cruise ship singers to me.
I have to say though... ONE person that came out of that show strikes me (only ONE person). It's Carrie Underwood..
Personally, I am not a fan of Country, and I have never bought her music (or have it), but I've seen her videos, and I think she's fantastic. She clearly has "it". Beautiful lady, great voice, great producers, etc...
But as far as the American Idol show is concerned, this shouldn't have ever been (or continue to be) a "phenomenon". It's just a matter of them feeding the media (a plus for the media because they have a story), and then them presenting the "ratings", and the media and them going back and forth.
It snowballed into this big blob of nonsense.
I'd like to see this show's demographics. But I've always been very afraid to see it. Ya know what I mean? :help:
