Since this is Digital Radio Central, I figured I'd post the shiny new digital 800MHz radio we just got installed at work.

Good stuff so far....

Well, we finally got the portables for this radio.

I can use it and talk to Erie from Philadelphia if I need to. It's pretty badass and all digital.

This is "Digital Radio Central", right?

A few years ago I lived in the Poconos and, in the winter, did snow-making at night (for the fun of it actually). One of the employees (the lead snow-maker) was a police officer and he had some radio that picked up calls from Philly. I'm not sure if it was one of these or what. He had one that picked up calls from NYC but it wasn't hand-held like the other one was. Sometimes he would play it over the loudspeakers as we were on the mountain.

He probably had a digital radio. It works on the same premise as a computer network.... all of the radios have IP addresses, if you can believe that. All of the radios go through a computer server, as I understand it, making distance a non-factor.

I'm all ones and zeros now.
