Last Tuesday, I was in the beginning of a 500-mile trip from my home base of Grand Rapids to southern Kentucky when just 20 miles into my trip, my Stratus stopped working.
I've had problems with the electrical part of the car unit for a while. I used to have to wiggle the end of the end of the chord leading into my unit to get it to work. However, as I was changing the channel, the sound stopped, the unit read "invalid channel" and bit the dust.
Luckily, I was just up the road from Plainwell, which has a Radio Shack. However, they only had two choices: another Stratus which will puke out on me within two years like this one did, or a Sportster 4. I went with the Sportster, and it was a wise decision.
With the Sportster, pressing the buttons is easier, the display's bigger and I love the replay feature. The only downfall is that its suction mount doesn't stick to my dash, so I keep it in my cupholder.
I think what killed my Stratus (and the SIR-1 before it) was the fact that I always never pressed the power button; I always unplugged it while it was running.
It was a good thing I got this new Sirius unit, or else I would have been bombarded with Country station after Country station. It does get desolate on my trip...
