LONDON -- London has launched an audacious bid to stage the Super Bowl within the next eight years, a move that would see the United States' biggest sporting event played overseas for the first time, the Sunday Telegraph has reported.

According to the newspaper, representatives from the Mayor of London's office and Visit London, the city's official visitor organization, have received assurances from the National Football League of a commitment to hold the event in London.

The NFL has already staged two sellout regular-season games at Wembley Stadium, with a third scheduled for this October.

"We are looking at 2014, 2015 or 2017," David Hornby, the commercial director for Visit London was quoted as saying.

I don't like it. The Super Bowl has grown into one of America's most-celebrated traditions, why would we want to play the game on foreign soil? And there are plenty of cities here that could benefit from Super Bowl revenue, rather than give it to London. Especially if this economy doesn't pick up anytime soon. I'd rather play ten Super Bowls in a row in New Orleans before playing one in London.

I really doubt this ever happens. Not in the foreseeable future, anyway.

The UK is our biggest business partner in the world. More British Corperations do buisness in the country than any other country.

I wouldn't bother me one bit. It's not like the average Joe gets to go to the Super Bowl anyway...:right:

How many real exciting Super Bowls have they had since Rams-Titans? Two? Let them host a SB. Only problem would be start time. It would have to start at 10pm there just for it to start at 5pm on the east coast...

I see your point, semi, but there's just something about having a Super Bowl outside of the US that seems so.....well.....un-American to me. I don't know, that's just my gut reaction to it. I'd rather see a city like Toronto get a Super Bowl before shipping it overseas. Let them play their soccer in Europe...they're perfectly fine with that.
