Just got a G2.

I finally bit the bullet and picked up a G2. If you remember me at all from SBS you'll remember me being one of the biggest supporters of sat radio. I was one of those people, dual subs, two radios on each service, they can do no wrong... that was before. As of next month, I'll be down to one XM radio. I'm not funding their "$2 'our stock is in the toilet so we're going to rape our most loyal customers' fee" and I'm gonna take that money and get a slacker plus sub with it. First impressions of the radio are great, it's a LOT smaller than I thought it would be, and the display is vivid. One thing I don't quite get is why bother preloading staitons if they expire by the time someone buys the radio? (I picked mine up from Best Buy, I don't know if this is everyones experience or not)

Once I get it refreshed I'll turn this into a sort of review thread. I'm just so psyched right now I finally got my slacker!

Sweet... we'll expect you to get active in the Slacker forum Dawg! :) Look forward to your review of the G2.

OK, I am in love with this thing.

The first thing I am noticing is this thing will go LOUD. A lot of newer MP3 players don't, for fear of getting sued, also making them difficult to use in noisy environments. I'm on four dots on the volume control and it's PLENTY for normal home listening. I don't have the balls to see how high it goes, to be completely honest. The sound quality is also impressive, but I can tell its aacPlus (my years with XM have made the tell-tale artifacts stick out like a sore thumb).

The menus are laid out extremely well, and the buttons all make sense. The scroll wheel seems a bit mushy, but I probably just have to get used to it. The screen is amazing... the full screen album artwork and the crispness of the text and menus. They could have easily cheaped out with a low res screen, but they didn't, and it shows. There's no noticeable menu lag either, which is a problem that plagues the XMp3 at times.

Refreshing is relatively painless (other than how long the first refresh takes), it took my wifi password on the first try and went right to work. About an hour, hour and a half later, it was ready. I'm hoping future refreshes will be shorter. The ability to read the artists and album reviews just like you can on the web player is cool, and a definite plus over XM.

I'm planning on getting Radio Plus with my tax return, but I've been listening for about 30-45 minutes and haven't heard a single ad yet. Definitely worth the $200.

Snake did you get the latest firmware update? 1.9.26?

The more you use this thing the more addicting it becomes? Did you get any accessories yet? The home dock is great I really recommend it.

Yes, the update was easy enough. Took about two minutes after it downloaded to apply. I kinda liked the old sync screen myself (even though I only got to see it once), gave a bit more info about wifi signal quality, and the progress bar was bigger so you could see it from further away.

The addicting factor is so true, the more I see I can do/play with this thing, the more I want to... going online and changing my stations then refreshing to see how the change affects, etc... it's amazing.

In terms of accessories, I bought it at Best Buy, so all I got was the player. I'm thinking of getting the home dock when I get a bit of money saved up. I bought an FM transmitter with it, I'm praying the thing doesn't suck. I'm in a small-ish FM market so finding an open frequency shouldn't be too hard. I didn't get to try it on the way home from BB because the free preview stations had "expired" (how stupid is that?)

With the recent announcement the SiriusXM is raising prices I bet we are going to see a lot more people getting switching over to Slacker.

Good to see another convert. Now that I'm used to the flexibility and customizations available with Slacker, I see satrad as very restrictive and a dated model. Enjoy the tunes!

Bingo. I'm definitely keeping one XM radio active (for the talk and such), and I still don't think it's a horrible deal. Raising the price of the second sub is what left the sour taste in my mouth and pushed me over the edge (I was originally going to wait until my tax return got here, but when SiriXM pulled that I went into my "rainy day" fund.)

I'm still blown away by the customization... this little guy is gonna keep me busy for a long time lol.

Snakester....welcome to Slacker....I've been hooked since November....the advice is that if you have a 25 station unit, keep about 15 or so on it, but not too much more so that you have room for more songs per station. I listen to my custom classic rock station all day at work and it adds more songs because it "knows" I listen to that station longer...I don't get repeats all day. I also have the iPhone application, which rocks. My XM buttons are collecting dust...I just canceled two of four subs.

I've been keeping around 17ish stations on it, and I've been noticing during syncs my most listened to stations take longer to refresh then the ones I listen to rarely, so I have enough free space for it to do that.

Nice to see someone else in the same boat as I am (assuming since your name is SatRadioRules)

It's nice to have a service that lets you pick and choose what music you want on select stations. And even lets you customize your own stations. Plus I have the iPhone app which includes all the stations available online, and I haven't even begun to explore all of them yet.

My only real complaint so far is how freaking easy the thing scratches. I've been babying it and I've already got a tiny scratch near the top of the screen.

Invisible Shield! If you can't do that, then get one of those PDA screen protectors on it till you can get a better one. That is what I did. When I took it out of the box I put a PDA protector on mine. I hated it, but it protected it till I could get the Invisible Shield for it.
