Hey Now

I know that he's threatened to leave MANY times before, as least as long as I can remember. Part of me wants to believe that you're correct about this, I think a lot about Larry King's ego and his reason for continuing on. But I really feel that Stern will NOT get a suitable deal this time around and he will "move on". I don't think he'll retire, per se, but he'll leave Sirius XM, lay low for a little while, then move on to other ventures.

When and if he does retire, so be it ! Life will go on, we all survived a two week vaction and we will survive if and when he retires.

Hey Now

The show this morning (Tuesday) is actually annoying me. They've been back for 1 day and it's already back to whining about the hours.

I agree, if this guy had to do physical labor he would crack in a week.

He should kiss the the ground his lucky feet walk on, he is truly a very lucky man. Had he not had the childhood and up bringing that he complains about and has made a very nice living off he may have walked a very different path and just been a regular guy.

:wah: Regular guy life would have killed him. :wah:

I have to agree with you CPT. Listening to Howard talk about the stress of working made me sick. I love the guy 95% of the time, but when he whines about his hours and the stress I can't stand him. He's really forgot where he came from. He needs to be reminded of those shitty work weeks when he made $94 a week.

great, then all the haters will have a chance to test the theory that howard's contract destroyed the company

His really pissy this morning, kinda annoying. Maybe its because he realized his trophy wife waits for him to fall asleep so she can go out with all her friends. :hhh:

I'm aware that "bitching" has always been a part of the Stern show. I just felt like this morning was way over the top. To be back for 1 day after 2 weeks off and then spend 30 minutes complaining about having to work was obnoxious.

Can Beth get this book done and published in that time frame?

beth better get her career in overdrive in this next 18 months, cuz if howie hangs it up, its over for her. no more mike and julia show (even tho cancelled), no more casino cinema (cancelled as well), and definitely no further appearances on the view either.

yeah, and ending the shows earlier than ever is just more icing on the cake. personally, if he's gonna half ass it the rest of his contract, I won't be too pissed to see him go given there's some talent to replace him. I'm thinking the following full time shows could be on the channels if he leaves:

miserable men
bubba
ferrall (don't like this show personally)
jason ellis (need to get him off faction)

then sprinkle in the specials as well. hopefully this wouldn't include mutt as howard would be gone.

You can't be competitive on FM with a taped show. Let's face it. Either Bubba's gone in two years as well (there's also the matter of the Cox contract that runs out then) or Sirius XM continues to carry the FM show. They're not going to pay Bubba what he's asking for an exclusive show.

why not? with all the freed up cash for howard being gone (and I assume oprah and martha will be gone then too), there should be plenty of money to get bubba as sirius exclusive again.

if sirius were smart, they'd buy out the last year of bubba's testicular show and bring him back exclusive in hopes of getting him to retain as much of howard's audience as possible before howard leaves.

I will take a half assed Howard any day over that crap. I would love to see Buuba on here full time, but that will never happen. As fo Eillis..... Please god!

They only way that will happen is if Bubba and the gang move to NY City. Thats all Mel cares about. Look how great Mad Dogs channel turned out(ranked 123 or some shit like that). Mel needs to get it through his thick fucking head that the be all end all is not in NY. There is a whole country out here. '

I doubt Mel wants to resign Ellis. I love Sirius and all,but some of the stupid shit they do makes me wonder. Yea lets give a few million to Jamie Fox and Martha.

martha stewart's channel is a waste, but jamie foxx's is actually good. there is actual shows and progamming and talent on there. and they play comedy as well. jamie foxx appears regularly on that channel as well. not right now as he is touring the country doing stand up tho. but I heard jamie foxx more times on foxx hole in one week than you will hear M&M on shade 45 in a year.

People are not going to renew subscriptions (including me) if he is definitely out of here. That's a real downside for his savior Mel.

I didn't get into satellite radio until Howard started talking about it, but how was the industry doing back in 2003, 2004, 2005?

It seemed to be doing ok with 6 million customers, right? They claim about 17-18 million now, right?

If they didn't sign any overpriced talent, they could probably do ok with 10-12 million subscribers.

Exactly. Kick Oprah and Martha off as soon (and as quietly) as possible. Once 2010 rolls around, figure out a way to have Bubba live more than once a week.

Maybe once Oprah and Martha go, then there could be a combined Bubba/Ellis channel.

They already had that option and failed. And I don't think Cox would be willing to let that happen unless they got a huge payday.

As for a toned down version of the satellite show on FM, I don't see how it would work logistically. Stations are not going to put a taped show on in the morning when most listeners are looking for something live and topical, and less music stations have an afternoon drive talk show these days. A taped Bubba show would probably tank on FM.

Their best bet, besides having Bubba exclusive, would be to carry a simulcast of the live FM show, and have a few exclusive hours, similar to the O&A deal.

Sirius is making the same mistake that KROCK made - they're not making any plans for Howards departure. They need to be working aggressively to promote new shows or else we're going to get David Lee Roth M-F, 6-10.

He said today he's probably just cryuing wolf to some shlub that called in saying Stern was depressing people with his end of days talk.

I say 3 more years and then HE'S ALL DONE. 3 years @ $100-$150m ($33-50M/year) is what I'm smelling.
