Another great reason why Howard needs to work on Friday: it's because everything happens a few hours after his weekend begins.

Yes, Soupy had been sick for a long time. As a matter of fact, I remember somebody saying on another message board years ago that he couldn't speak higher than a whisper during an on-stage appearance at that time.

Soupy's death is without a doubt an unneeded smack in the face of Detroit. If you were a kid growing up in the 1950's, you rushed home during the noon lunch break to watch "Lunch With Soupy" on WXYZ-TV 7.

Oh, yes, who could ever forget the infamous striptease that's still talked about 50 years later? ;)

In loving memory...

Soupy was cool. Not old enough to remember the original show, but growing up in Detroit it was hard not to know who Soupy was. I loved the show he did in 78/79 - watched it every day.

Is Howard live on Monday?

If he is live on Monday I would think that most of his thoughts towards Soupy will be about...well....just about everything he's said about Soupy for the last five years.

Perhaps he should replay the piano cutting show?

Soupy was a great talent.
However, I really think his act was more of a visual thing (like the pie in the face bit).
It just did not translate well to radio. I remember his mid-day show on 66/WNBC, which was right between Imus (AM drive) and Stern (PM drive). Soupy was sort of a weak link there, IMHO.
In any case, it's sad to lose a great like that.
:pope: Rest in peace, Soupy :pope:

Never heard of the guy until Howard brought him up. Maybe I'm too young. Was he only on the air in NY or all over the country?

Anyway I remember Fred saying he was a major asshole in the "History of Howard Stern."

One of the higher ups said hi to Fred in the hallway and Soupy said something along the lines of, "Don't say hello to that guy. He's a nobody." Fred sounded really pissed as he retold that story.
