And they claim Jackie was impossible when it came to contract time, he learned from a master. If I hear one more on air bitch fest from Howard about how he isnt coming back, wah wah wah. He will be back without the air waves to gripe about everything he would be lost and beth would be gone in a month if she had to deal with him 24/7.

I don't know how long you have been listening to the show but in the 90's he would devote almost entire shows to rail on about quitting radio if the stations didn't pay him more next contract. To me, he has been very subdued so far.

And yes, Jackie did learn from the master.

Yeah, he's been doing that since I started listening in 1992. I remember being bummed since I had really gotten into the show and he was so vocal about that being his last contract because he was sick and tired of coming to work every morning.

I'm convinced howard is coming back. I mean probably 2-3 days a week and of course more vacation. probably a 2 or 3 year deal this time as well.

also, if howard leaves, he will no longer have the platform to plug all of beth's events. and thats probably the main thing that will be the driving force for him coming back. that and when it comes down to it, howard loves doing the show. no matter how much he complains.

Howard is definitely not retiring and is negotiating for LESS time. He claims what a hassle it is to do all the work at his "old" age. He wants to do two days a week ideally.

If the show is half-assed already, imagine if he's only coming in two or three days a week. Everyone used to say that the four day work week would give Howard energy to do great shows. That did not happen. It only made him more lazy.

If Howard is so tired and bored with radio already then he needs to retire. It's the end of the road and he doesn't need the money and a lesser schedule is a slap in the face for the people who only listen to Howard.

I don't care if Stern does retire as long as it means Medicated Pete will never annoy me again. That back and forth "yeah", "yeah", "yeah", "yeah" this morning irritated me more than anything I've heard on radio in a long time.

Hopefully he lets the staff know after Christmas so they can start looking for work.

As others of said, when Howard was leaving terrestrial radio and had not yet signed with Sirius, he pulled the same move, "I'm done, I can't imagine another day of radio, blah blah blah" - of course, he could have been serious at the time, and then signed with Sirius, but either way, it comes as no surprise.

Beth on the show was, as usual, a MESS. She's a brainless idiot, plain and simple. "Keep your pets away from open flames" - REALLY??? At one point when she was upset about Howard not wanting cats, she joked about them needing Keith Ablow - if ONLY they'd talk to Ablow who would tell them that is one doomed marriage, more so than Sal's marriage! KEEP BETH OFF THE AIR!!! I'm so worried Howard will re-sign and the Jackie/Artie chair will be filled by Beth... :(

It was sickening listening to him and Beth yesterday. Three times he said what a great husband he was before she responded. And when she did he came back with "I am".

He did the same exact thing with Joan Rivers talking about how great his wedding was.
He's been looking for validation his whole career. It's just getting more apparent now, and more sickeningly overt in situations like that.

I dont know if their marriage is doomed, but the affection definitely seems a bit too forced IMO. I been married longer than he has, and I dont constantly have to do that sh*t.

as for sal, I really like it any time he's on the air. he's always bound to say something stupid, or tell funny stories about his wife/marriage, or something funny about being on the road with richard.

That Beth segment was such shit. They go on and on about how great she is but the fact is she is a super shallow person that values looks above anything else.

Also the fact that now she has a say on how the STAFF CHRISTMAS PARTY is handled is a fucking joke.

Beth: Benjy, you'll enjoy it more if you bring someone you love.

Shut up. Even Ronnie on the Wrap Up Show said it was bullshit that Howard changed the rules of who to bring.

Beth getting involved in show matters is the same as John Lennon bringing Yoko to the recording sessions.

This should be a staff thing where they can have fun and enjoy what they want. It's a reward of sorts from the multi millionaire Howard to his peons who make less in one year than Howard makes in a week.

So for Beth to get in this and start saying what they can or can't do is bullshit.

Oh and that dog book is proof that she has an empty head. The publisher originally wanted her to write it and when they saw the first draft they must've freaked out so they completely changed the book.

On the positive side Artie wasn't there to kiss Howard's ass about how great Beth and Howard are.

Just wanna add one last thing.

Howard is always saying how lucky he is to have Beth. Beth is the lucky one. She's completely interchangeable. She would never be able to hook up with a guy of Howard's fame/money ever again.

Wow a lot of strong opinions about Beth! I am not a fan of her either. Every time I hear her speak (in her half blue blood/half valley girl inflection) I can understand why he is having issues with his daughters.

that last part I gotta disagree on. from what I understand, is even before howard she always dated those rich guys. I mean, how did she even get to the party where she met howard? remember when howard first started dating her. she lived in a run down apartment where the roof was caving in. and he moved her into his place basically?

I think if she had never met howard she would be the trophy wife of some older new york rich guy. maybe not a famous guy, but definitely rich.

beaniemac, who even knows. That's what Howard said but no way she lived in a rundown apartment.

Just like Howard claimed she didn't know who he was when they met.

Then Beth goes on The View and tells everyone when they met and she saw Howard walk into the party they were at, she rushed to call her brothers who are big Howard fans.

That's straight from the horse's mouth. Howard maybe feels he has to lie on the air for whatever reason.
