I've emailed some people at SIRIUS about the price changes on internet going to $2.99. Not that it's official I've asked them whether the Stilettos will still continue to be able to get the feature of WiFi and they have confirmed that it will for FREE!

So that's great news to those that speculated about that. In addition I've brought up that many on this forum and in general are hoping for some updates on the following for Stiletto owners.

-Channel Logos
-Possible Firmware Updates
-Love/Memo features

I know they are working on these. So I usually don't like to post these kinds of updates since I don't represent SIRIUS XM or someone who works directly for them, but I just want to mention they are aware of these issues and are working on them. I do think for this kind of thing it's pretty good to get on their case about it with the right method.

This is good news Taylor.

The $2.99 price increase is really not a bad deal. If you already have a Premium Internet Radio subscription you know it's worth every penny.

If you rarely use the free/basic internet radio you have now because it's included with a vehicle OEM or rarely listen on a home PC, then you can opt not to pay and are unaffected.

Finally, for the folks that do use the free/basic internet radio on a regular basis and have not tried the Premium 128k stream - try it out for a month and I guarantee you will love it! The sound quality is superb.

It's good that they've made the right choice with the Stilettos. Considering the wi-fi is a pretty fundamental function of the device, it would be pretty low of Sirius to upcharge you for that. You already paid a premium for the device itself!!

I'm just assuming (and you know what happens when we do that...) that the "free" stream for wifi/Stiletto users will be a reduced bitrate...i.e., NOT 128k.

Here's hoping this is the beginning of possibly XM releasing a wifi-enabled radio.

Absolutely. When a person purchases a portable (ie. SL100, SL2) featuring wifi internet radio they assume they get to use that service.

I have been paying $2.99 for the prem. wifi for over a year now and would love to see them offer a lifetime subscription plan for internet radio users and a promotional plan for current lifetime subscribers.

And who said lifetime subs don't generate revenue for the company? :flex:

I'm thinking it would likely be the same thing, but I emailed and asked. So maybe we will find out soon.

I've been fighting Sirius and my SL-100 for over a year now. I only have 1 radio on my account, pay for the Premium stream, and my SL-100 has never been authorized to stream the 128k stream, only the 32. I was hoping this would fix that for me! ahhhhh

The fantastic news furthers the theories that Sirius is pushing for an increase in lifetime subs. It also recognizes the subs purchased and the hardware investments by it loyal customers. It also isolates Sirius' concerns about password sharing and too many non paying individuals enjoying the 32k feed. They must be trying to do away with the 32k feed for all non receiver owning and/or lifetime subs in order to raise their respective revenues.

This is absolutely the right decision and the best news. So many having made that investment certainly deserve to keep access to the wifi. I always, loved the Wifi portion of the SL100 and SL2. Heck it is kept more up to date than the sat mode. LOL

Vols I think you are right they appear to be doing away with the 32kb feed for non receive owning/lifetime subs. You'll would still have the option to upgrade to the 128kb if you wanted to, but the 32kb will remain free.

So it looks like the 32kb feed will be included in Stilettos sold to date. 128kb high-quality is an available upgrade. I wonder what they'll do with Stilettos sold after the new streaming policy takes effect. Will the wi-fi piece then be an add-on?

I am also under the impression that the feed included with current subscribers who are either lifetime or under contract before the change would continue to receive the 32kb low-bitrate feed. The 128kb feed is an available upgrade.

Once your term lapses, or you add a new subscription (or are a new subscriber), the only thing available to you (besides no streaming at all) would be the high quality stream for a monthly fee. No new 32kb access.

I think even on future SL100 and SL2 sold that the 32kb feed will be available for free. The reason for this is that the Stiletto feed is actually a separate feed from the current regular web feed. So only Stilettos login to these servers and I am sure they are authorized through your account with your SL100 or SL2 ESN.

Lifetimes continue to get the free 32kb with an option to upgrade to 128kb.

Once your current subscription term ends, you'll no longer be able to get a free internet feed, it will all be 128kb for the $2.99 per month.

So it sounds like you got all this stuff down :)

It would also be nice to see these things happen too:

-Channel Logos
-Possible Firmware Updates
-Love/Memo features

I think the Stilletto free feed is the only one free from abuse. I don't know how many times I read about someone who has given the username/password away to somebody else to use. That somebody else could be a paying sub.

I think what I want from them for the SL2 with regards to firmare updates is (in order of priority):

1. A fix to the memory corruption
2. Proper Logos
3. Ability to love songs from The Bridge.

I think the loved songs issue is not a firmware issue for most channels. I can love some songs but not others. However, The Bridge seems to be set to not be able to love ANY songs. I suspect this is a firmware. Perhaps it was a setting left over from Led Zepplin Radio? Or it is possible that 100% of the music is not used by other channels and has therefore not yet been tagged. It would not be the first time Sirius has treated The Bridge with a low priority.

Yeah, I totally agree with your priority list, but the real deal is that they should be able to accomplish all these things with one ZAP update to address the memory corruption and include the latest and greatest channel icons and wallpapers.

I do think they have the ability in the system to turn off the ability to love song via certain channels, so like you I think that is likely what the deal is on the Bridge. We do know that the XM library did have to be updated to include that PID data that the Sirius tuners use to send an alert that there is a matching song. XM uses text and this is why even on the Sirius Library theirs still continued to work.

This is good news, at least Stiletto users will continue to use the device as it was advertised to without paying more for a previously free feature. I paid for Premium internet for 2 months, it was fantastic, but cancelled it, and I do miss lsitening online in great quality when Im away from home, but, alas, I can live without it, and I'll probably get by fine without it altogether.

Wait a sec; If I am paying for XM with Best Of Sirius in my car, can I get it for free on the internet after March?

I figured as much. That's a good thing. If you pay for the premium stream, can you get the premium stream on the Stiletto 100? And if you can, do you have to pay for a second $2.99 internet subscription?

If you use your SL100 as the ESN for your sat radio, then it will automatically get the 128kb feed, this has been available for over a year now. You must pay the $2.99 per month. You can also use the internet feed and get the higher bitrate as well. So it works on both for that fee.
