FM Adapter trouble

Installed FM Adapter (FMDA25) in my '07 Audi A3 (with Audi Concert head unit) to run a starmate 5. It works...sort of. There is no static when the starmate is on and I am tuned to the correct FM station. However, when I turn the starmate off I am supposed to get my local stations back right? But, I only get some of the FM and none of the AM stations...I connected the adapter using the Volkswagon wire adapters that I got @ Best Buy.

Any ideas why this is? Ever heard of this problem? I tried to search for older posts with this problem but couldn't find any. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure the jack is fully seated?

I had the antenna jack slip out of the adapter once. It really messed with reception except for the strongest stations in town. When I reached up under the dash, it felt almost like the jack was still in, but I gave it a wiggle, and I felt it snap back in place. Wrapped it with electrical tape and it hasn't popped out since.

Happening since day 1

I double checked...All wires are tight. This problem has been around since the first day I installed the FM adapter so it isn't like it worked for a while then stopped. At first I thought this was normal, then I read in the directions that the local stations should all work when the radio is turned off.
