K, I am severely bored at the moment, just to explain this thread better.. lol

So I was going through my TV Channels and came across the "Retro Cartoon Network" (Canada TV) anyways it has all the old cartoons such as Beetle Juice, Flintstones, Bugs Bunny, Spiderman, Fraggle Rock, Road Runner and such cartoons. Well it got me thinking why do they not make cartoons like those ones these days. They are all learning type cartoons of some sort, never just a fun to watch cartoon..

So what are some of your favorite old time cartoons or maybe ones from today?

Uh, what? They make The Simpsons, Family Guy, Flapjack, Spongebob, Metalocalypse, Venture Bros, South Park and many more.

My favorite old cartoons are Rocky & Bullwinkle and Looney Tunes. My favorite current cartoons are the ones I listed above. The Simpsons is my absolute favorite.

Ya I get ya there but would you seriously let your 5 years old sit down and watch South Park? Those are totally different cartoons to me then your Looney Tunes and such ones.

Nope. My nine year old can't watch South Park. But she can watch The Simpsons, Spongebob & Flapjack.

And there are a lot of older cartoons that I'm careful about showing to her. Some of them have extremely racist stereotypes in them, and I want to make sure she understands why it isn't OK to stereotype people like that, even if it is hilarious. That's a hard distinction for a nine year old to make.

I know isn't it crazy the cartoons we use to watch, I never realized how bad some of them are til now. Hubby and I were watching Tweety I think it was about a month ago and the one cat in it was running around crying saying she wishes she would just die and such, like my gawd I can't believe some of the things that were in them back them..

Favorites from the past: Looney Tunes, Flintstones, Jetsons, Scooby Doo, + I pretty much watched anything that played on Saturday mornings back in the 1980's.

Favorites from today: SpongeBob Squarepants... My kid loves that one, and so do I! We also like the Penguins of Madagascar.

Watching the Looney Tunes on DVD again recently... I wouldn't feel right letting my kid watch it nowadays (she's almost 3). Too many guns and shooting. Although, we watched it back in the day and we made it alright. :idunno:

We did make it out alright but the scary thing is some kids today are not like most sadly enough.

Pepe-le-peu was a stalker and constant attempted rapist! old cartoons were great. new ones are ok but the ones they make for kids are so sanitized that they suck. they are way to preachy about being multi-racial and being green and crap. that's all fine stuff to teach kids, but it makes for dumb cartoons. I just want to see Tom try and kill Jerry!

If it was a cartoon in the 70's I was there.
I was just too old for smurfs, turtles, and gi joe.

The old loony tunes, and new ones when I was in college were great.
We survived the old tunes as inappropriate as they are today. Our folks managed to teach us the difference between right, wrong, and make believe. If I was a parent, I wouldn't want them making em lake that today.
