I was just wondering. and I was in college around the time he split from his wife therefore couldn't listen to the show then and I never quite understood what happened.
Does anyone on here know why howard got divorced?

No one knows the exact details, but he was a shut in who spent most of his time in the basement, ignoring his wife and kids. I suppose it's not going too far out on a limb to say his wife stepped out on him, considering she was remarried shortly after the divorce (2001). He has always said he never cheated, he's never said she didn't.
I have heard him refer to this basement and a fishtank. what was this all about? I mean did he ever say what he was doing in the basement?
Howard really ruled the roost... His sister accused him of bullying Alison ..He would not let her work (what the hell - three kids) and often stated that since he brought home the bacon, he was entitled to his things...like porn in the basement... From what he said then, I know that she loved to socialize and Howard did not.... He complained every time they went out... often riduculed her "yenta" friends... I think she also complained about his lousy emotional relationship with her.... think what brought things to a head was when they went to a marriage counselor.. I think that Howard refused to compromise... When that happens, what else can the counselor do but recommend divorce?... Hence, the divorce. I think that they signed a separation agreement and that Alison got a divorce as soon as she could (one year after the date of the separation agreement) and got remarried very soon after the divorce judgment...
In his second book, he says he just surfed the internet, engaged in sex chat, and played with himself. 
He would get home, eat, and retire to the basement. He had a home theater and his gigantic salt water fish tank down there. He'd stay down there and watch TV, claiming he was doing "show research." He never wanted to go out or socialize, so (according to him) Alison had to rely on tennis lessons at the club, and yapping with her "Long Island yenta" friends for social interaction.
It's funny how a younger Hot blonde can get you out of the house. He also socializes a lot more too. Lets also not forget that he drinks on Thursdays and weekends. That used to be a big no no for Howard. Do you guys think he just didn't want to be seen with Allison? I think he loves being seen with Beth(Who wouldn't). I also wonder what Allison thinks of Howard going out and doing things with Beth that he would never do with her.
He began to take therapy very seriously when his marriage collapsed. His newfound socializing, as opposed to his previous agoraphobia, could be the result of therapy (that's not to say a young hot blonde can't clear a clouded mind just as good a $400/hr shrink).
I not a fan of Howard Stern but seeing how his life is, I can see why she wants to divorce him.

Lets see...... When he was with her he stayed in the basment all the time. Now he has a younger hotter wife and he's always out on the town with her. I don't care how much money Allisons new man has she has to feel kinda bad. What the hell does having more money have to do with it?

Everyone says she married David Simon, originally from Indiana, CEO of the Simon Property Group. But that is incorrect, an urban myth. She really married someone named David Scott Simon, from Long Island. Probably a regular guy, who is spending Stern's millions.
