XpressRC Issues

Was very happy with my RC up until yesterday when I attempted to connect it to a home dock. The home dock itself was easy enough to hook up and the RC powered up normally but no audio. So I tried it in the boombox. Same issue. It will power up, but no audio. It will only play in the car. I did turn off the "vehicle mode" menu option at one point before bringing the RC inside but "no go". This has me scratchin my head. (Naaa, it was dandruff !) Any help here would be great & thanks for your time.

I have a lifetime sub on my Delphi SkyFi2 and I'm really tempted to bite off and get the Xpress RC. I figure, I'll move the subscription over ($75) and then I'll have a nice PNP unit for a bunch of years ahead of me.

For those of you that have them:
- are you still happy with it?
- any problems?

I'm having a really hard time with it because I keep thinking: Ok - it basically buys me a color display with the channel icons (both of which I like a lot) but it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense in that the SkyFi2 works just fine and, realistically, tells me everything I need to know (just not in a fancy colorful pretty way).

Thoughts?

I personally would wait until your SkyFi2 dies before replaceing it with an Xpress RC. Save your transfers for when you need them.

How many of you have the XpressRC? I totally love this radio because of the replay features, song/artist seek, real preset buttons and a high resolutions colored display. Not to mention the ability to record up to 10 favorite songs. The footprint is small and is such a good looking tuner that it looks good rather used at home or in a vehicle.

I almost came off my seat DAB reading this until I noticed the date. I couldn't believe you dumped your latest greatest piece of hardware to go back to a previous version of your latest greatest hardware. :)

Absolutely did indeed and you know what I dumped don't you? I used the ExpressRC up until I got my XM Skydock. In fact I still have my ExpressRC, I like it so much I even had it reactivated, but did finally deactivate it a while back. I've been unable to make myself part with it. Though I am glad you reminded me cause I really do need to put all that hardware together and Ebay it.

It's a great setup and I don't blame someone for wanted to switch from the Skyfi2 with that crappy display it has. Also he can tell them his Skyfi2 took a dump and still get the transfer done now and likely for no charge.

Having just been through it, they seem to be complete dickheads now regarding lifetime transfers. The only warrentee they recongnize is their own. When I finally run out of transfers I will just add the replacement as a family plan radio. They were a lot more liberal before the merger.

Well I guess it was to be expected for them to eventually tighten up on this. Not very many folks that have these Lifetime subs bought a warranty from Sirius. Some of them have extended warranties from Best Buy. But then you'd deal with Best Buy on that and since they no longer have Stiletto's its a moot point anyway.

Then again maybe you are just too easy going, hehehe I was told they make you pay a $15 activation even on swaps. I have yet to pay that fee yet, not cause they didn't try. I just held firm to my position and took it all the way to a supervisor if necessary. Always had it waived. Not saying I could on a Lifetime, but clearly it is up to the individual CSR you are dealing with.

But thanks for the heads up because that is good info that folks with a Lifetime need to know. I never bit that bullet!

They waived the fee as a 'one time courtesy'. And that took about 10 minutes of telling them why should I bear the responsibility for their hardware failing after only 2 years, etc. Maybe they will do it next time, maybe not but I am not convinced that they didn't count the transfer. That is why you should wait until you have to do the transfer to do it.

As for the fee, I suspect the $15 is easier to have them waive.

As for SL2s, there are still currently plenty up here. They replaced it new off the shelf. If this new one fails in the next 3 years, it will be Future Shop's responsibility to repair or replace, or replace with equivalent. At $299, I can't imagine the SL2s moving too fast off their shelves either. If not available, I would expect an XMP3 would satisfy my needs (although I would miss the WiFi) and if billing is aligned, I could transfer to that one.

If it works for you, it works for me! I don't have a lifetime plan to have to worry about all that. I never wanted to be forced to stick to a single tuner without having the concerns you mention. I have over the years had way to many tuners to have to deal with that limitation. Fortunately not everyone is like me though so for some the lifetime plan has value.

Stiletto's are pretty hard to find in the US from what I've been hearing and accessories damn near impossible to find.

Hindsight is 20/20. It seemed like a good idea at the time. But what is done is done. Gotta move forward. I would not recommend a lifetime sub to anyone anymore.

But didn't you do it twice? :p

I lifetimed my XM last May, yes. It was either that or a 3 year renewal. I figure I would be doing a transfer in a couple of years on that one but it would be cheaper. Again, hindsight is 20/20. I should have just wangled one of those $77/year deals.

Looks like XpressRC is on Clearance at Best Buy

I saw it at the Loganville, GA Best Buy on Clearance for $96 today. Doesn't seem to show up in the results on their website any longer.

I'm guessing that if you'd like one of these you should drop by your local Best Buy and see if it's on clearance there (I'd run it by the register myself). I think I also saw it at Fry's on clearance last week, too.

Mini tuners seem to be disappearing as well.

I guess XM's one product will be the Onyx. That's kind of sad.

Of course, it may be like DirecTV's transistion about a decade ago where they swapped from everyone making their boxes (Sony, TiVo, RCA, JVC (I think)) to just them having their own branded boxes.

The Delphi ExpressRC has been replaced by the Audiovox ExpressRCi. Same radio, different manufacturer.
