I was thinking the other day about some great country songs that when you hear them you just want to sing along. It got me to thinking about putting together a list.

1) Hank Williams Jr - Family Tradition

2) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn3JB51NH_M] El Paso - Marty Robbins[/ame]

3) Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks

4) Pancho and Lefty - Waylon & Willie

3) Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks

Love the live version.

I always sing to:
"The Gambler" -- Kenny Rogers
"Driving My Life Away" -- Eddie Rabbit
"Ring Of Fire" - Johny Cash
"Devil Went Down To Georgia" - Charlie Daniels
"Elvira" - Oak Ridge Boys

All these are crossover but those are most of the country songs I have heard.

"Elvira" - Oak Ridge Boys

"Giddy Up Oom Poppa Omm Poppa Mow Mow"
That guy must hit some of the lowest notes ever recorded.

I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with a country song I might actually like...
"The Battle of New Orleans" - Johnny Horton - is one.
"Always on My Mind" by Willie Nelson
Anne Murray had a few crossovers that I like.

The Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels Band (Zac Brown Band does a pretty good version, too)

A White Sport Coat, and a Pink Carnation - Marty Robbins

Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash

I think I'll just stay here and drink - Merle Haggard

Streets of Bakersfield - Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens

Pancho and Lefty - Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson

Lucille - Kenny Rogers (always sing along to the chorus - "You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille!")

Coal Miner's Daughter - Loretta Lynn

Crazy - Patsy Cline

Hello Walls - Faron Young

My favorite classic country song - and one of the most perfect songs of all time, of any style - is Hank William Sr.'s "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"

You can just feel the pain in his voice.

I always liked the song, but I didn't fully appreciate it until I heard this piece on npr that disscected the song.

Click here, and scroll down about a third of the way down (it's in alphabetical order):

NPR 100

An amazingly emotional performance.

I love "Big Iron" by Marty Robbins.

To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day
Hardly spoke to folks around him didn't have too much to say
No one dared to ask his business no one dared to make a slip
for the stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip

It was early in the morning when he rode into the town
He came riding from the south side slowly lookin' all around
He's an outlaw loose and running came the whisper from each lip
And he's here to do some business with the big iron on his hip
big iron on his hip

In this town there lived an outlaw by the name of Texas Red
Many men had tried to take him and that many men were dead
He was vicious and a killer though a youth of twenty four
And the notches on his pistol numbered one an nineteen more
One and nineteen more
