Cigarette plug for the wall?

I want to use my car dock inside connected to my home stereo through the line out connector. Is there a power converter that I can plug into the wall to make a cigarette adapter work inside the home? I can then plug my extra (rental car) dock into this device and then into the wall, letting me use my portable radio inside.

Ideas?

You can use a power converter to use your cigarette lighter adapter from your car inside your home, but those are usually very expensive and will cost more than an actual home power supply for your radio. What radio do you have? If you can give me the model number I can give you a link to the right home power cord you need.

Yup... they sell them at Radio Shack for, I believe, under $5. I used a car dock at home for years with my S50. Somebody here should be able to provide a link to the AC converter.

I used to work at radio shack and I can promise you that they don't work well with new radios. It is much better and will be more cost effective in the long run to buy the correct home adapter for your radio. I wouldn't want to rely on a $5 part and it end up ruining my radio.

If he's just talking about a plug that goes into the wall that converts AC to DC, I've used those for years. I plugged it into the wall and then plugged the cig adapter from my radio into it. Never had any problems.

That's the one I was using.

I have it plugged into the back of the receiver (the plugs you aren't supposed to use) and it works the nuts. Never a problem and wouldn't know what problem they could cause.

I am curious to see which part you are talking about. When I worked there we sold them for much more than 5$. What I remember was more around 30$. We have our AC power adapters here at TSS for much less than that and they are the right ones for the radio. Maybe I am thinking of the wrong part.

I've got a Stiletto 2. Was thinking of Joe's device above, but if there was a "real" plug for it, I'd use that first.

Eureka! Idea -- any reason why I could not use either an old S50 home dock charger OR even the SL2's wall charger on the SL2 car dock??? I don't have a volt-meter to compare them, so I'm hesitant about experimenting....

If you are talking about just the wall charger itself from an S50, yes, it will work for the stiletto 2. However the S50 home dock will not work for the stiletto 2. Also, the stiletto 2 wall charger will work on the car dock. I hope this information helps.

Thanks, Matt! The SL2 wall charger worked in the dock perfectly! Incidentally, the S50 wall plug is a different sized plug and does not fit in the charger. Had the same issue with the S50 car plug as well.

This lets me have a unit for both the car and home!

I bought this one years ago for my s50 when I could't find a home dock. It cost alittle more but it has some circuit protection.
