I, Mr. Apple Boy, am seriously considering getting the Blackberry Bold from AT&T before the holidays. I dig the iPhone, no problem at all with it, but it's got some things missing that I'd like (Multitasking among others) that would make me want to. And I've spoken to a few friends online who are BB users who have me near convinced. I may also get an iPod touch to keep the interface and a few important apps like the radio stuff, and that I don't have to worry about Airplane mode or not charging with my old iPod Hifi.

I've been thinking about getting a Blackberry Bold for some time.. I've done the research and it looks like a great phone.

But, right now I'm still waiting to check out the new phones with Windows Mobile 7 before I buy a new phone (still have a year to go before they come out :().

I have a Mac so Windows Mobile isn't really practical, and BB is starting to play nice with OS X so that's a major bonus. And a lot of the stuff I use on the iPhone is available in some form or another on the BB.

The Bold rocks :)

All the main radio apps are also available for the Blackberry (Pandora, Slacker, I Heart Radio, etc...).

The next gen of smart phones look pretty damn sweet. With the new Win mobile OS coming out, and the Android platform catching on I think the iphone's reign of dominance is going to end.

Competition is always a good thing, and I don't have issues with the phone, but lack of multitasking and having the ability to tether if I want to are two strikes against the iPhone. Plus push GMail which the iPhone doesn't have, and they just came out with an app that does phone locator and remote wipe for a one-time price of $5 for the Blackberry where it's $99 a year to get that service with MobileMe.

From what I understand BB also syncs with iCal and Outlook/Entourage.

those are pretty much the exact reasons I went BB instead of iPhone (push email and multitasking). I have a few email accts pushed to my Bold (including gmail) and also sync my contacts and calendar with google. I love the iphone, but those two things are important enough to me to go BB. I am excited about the smartphone options i will have in 18 months when my current contract is up though :).

If the temperature in hell is indeed falling, Sirius must be planning a channel update.

You do know that not all your devices need be from the same manufacturer, right? :)

Everything I'm hearing says that Windows Mobile isn't getting any better. I wouldn't bother waiting on that.

You're probably thinking of 6.5 (which is the one that just came out).

6.5 is basically just a face lift, nothing major.

7 is still in development (alpha) and will be a major release. It won't be available until late 2010 (that is, if all things go as planned).

Yeah, I know a guy who's all into this and he thinks Windows Mobile is so far behind that it may just die. I've never used any of them.

I wouldn't count it out. They're not far behind Apple's iPhone OS in terms of market share (4-5% behind), and they still have a larger market share than the Android OS (by over 6%).

Of course, the RIM Blackberry is king, and that's the OS that Apple, Microsoft, and Google are aiming to dethrone.

If they can pull off an amazing OS for mobile devices like they did for the PC, then I can easily see Microsoft narrowing down Apple's lead to 1-2%. Hell, it's possible that they could take away Apple's lead and become the main competitor to the Blackberry.

They just need to play their cards right.

Personally, since you are planing on staying with AT&T, I would just keep the iPhone. Mainly because of the radio apps, and "there is an app for that". I have a Blackberry Storm and I love it! The reason why I got it instead of the iPhone is because I mainly wanted to use it for data. And Verizon is the only company that has a data only plan (for $49.99). While AT&T does not, I don't feel like paying $70.00/month for the service, even if I do get 400 anytime minutes that roll over. Anyway, but if the blackberry can do more for you then you should go for it. There are still radio apps, like Slacker (with the ability to cache via USB), Pandora, and BerryTunes ($20).

The caching for Slacker is one of the major reasons I'll be switching. Push Gmail is another. I may consider getting an iPod Touch for MLB At Bat and other stuff I don't get on BB. And I'll probably be replacing this old beast that's still on Tiger before too long, that'll be a Mac as well. My sister has a BB and I played around with it while she was in town, I liked what I saw and a lot of the apps I use are there. Shazam even has an app for the BB which I wasn't aware of.

I have MLB Premium on my Bold and it is awesome. I get enhanced gameday for all games plus home and away gameday audio for every game of the season (plus post season). They also offer video highlights but I have never used that. It's not really an app since you don't load anything to the BB, but rather you access it all online in the BB browser. For $15 bucks a season, it's a great deal!
