Changes to 128 you might like to see in the offseason

I know it's partly the time of the year, but the whole channel has been draggin' azz lately. What changes do you all think would pep up the ol' NASCAR channel?

TMD - As per the other thread, this show is the biggest mess. First it was the Poole show with Marty Snider, which didn't work all that well. Then it was the Poole show with Mike Bagley, which was excellent. Now it's the Mike Bagley show with Pete Pistone, which doesn't work at all.

It's really not PPs fault either, he's does ok, it's his role in the show that is poor. He or whoever sits in that chair shouldn't be second banana. Problem is, Pete doesn't go to many races, isn't well known in the garage and doesn't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the sport. Big problem.

My call, put Moody and Sirius Speedway in the AM. The first show to hit the air on Monday morning should be well-prepped, informative and have a definite direction. Right now, it's a bunch of off-topic chat and tentative vanilla opinions.

Tradin' Paint - As strange as it sounds, I wouldn't change a thing. Rick is very well prepared, even though he does a bunch of other things outside of 128. Choc is Choc, it is what it is. At least Rick keeps him somewhat focused, Post just let him go last year and it was a nightmare. At least there are a lot interviews and not too many callers. Keep Buddy and Post on Fridays for sure.

Afternoon - I think Bagley would do better later in the day. More guest hosts/commentators, faster pace, more information, less opinion, less time to get sidetracked. Mike's a great PxP guy, he does very well dealing with fast-paced information, what he doesn't do well is planning out talking points for a four-hour show with a co-host that doesn't take charge.

Late Shift - Best show on 128 don't mess with it.

CBL - Axe the Wednesday show, bring back NASCAR Performance and Mojo 8-10. If there's anything this channel needs, it's less CBL. Yes, her interviews are good and she gets people who don't come on other shows, but the constant verbal diarrhea makes her show unlistenable. Most of her stuff is cut & paste anyway, throw it all in one big show Thursday, maybe I'll even tune in.

Weekend shows - Hardly anyone listens anyway so do whatever. One thing that needs an upgrade is the post-race show. I know everybody is on a plane or driving away at high speed or whatever, but let's get a little more interviews and analysis. I could care less about some drunk in the parking lot that had a great time at the track.

So what do you want to see?

I'm SO thankful for Pat Patterson that he has a LIVE show on the weekends. And Press Pass too. I listen on the weekends and I want LIVE shows to talk about up to the minute news. I really could care less about Loose Ends.

I want more of the post-race show. Several hours worth. I enjoy listening to the callers on those shows. It fresh, right after a race, and the callers are passionate and still worked up from the race.

When I was still truckin', I would have given my left jewel for a LIVE overnight show. Yeah, it's nice to listen to a replay of a show you missed...but only to a point. And SO many truckers have a SAT. radio now that I still wish for that. To me it always makes a difference knowing it's a LIVE show and not a replay.

The Late Shift might be my favorite show right now...I just wish it was on every night. Buddy and Alex make a great combo. And I would have Mojo come on after them every night too. Those two shows back to back make a great night of LIVE radio.

TMD has lost a lot of my time. My other thread addresses that for me.

I don't listen to TP. I can't stand Rick and Choc gets on my nerves. They are both very biased. That's fine. Just let it be known instead of trying to pretend to be fair. I don't like fake. However, I do agree with Choc when he says that nascar needs more rough southern tobacco spittin' fellas instead of all these pretty boys who look and act like they just got out of some ivy league school and dress and talk like a proper elitist from the latest GQ magazine.

Moody's show is in the perfect spot for his type of show. The first hour is the best usually. And they have the best sound clips. My biggest beef is with Suzy Q. Yeah, I know I'm in the minority with that but if it were up to me I fire her first thing. I can't stand her. Moody could say anything and she will agree. Moody can tell any joke and she will laugh. Other than being a mirror sidekick she reads the news pulled off the net. And sometimes she even screws that up. Personally I see NO value for her even being there and I LOVE the days when she's not.

So I guess that leaves CBL. And I don't know when I would put her on. Maybe in TP's slot if she wanted it. She's informative and gets the best interviews and clips. But can be VERY long winded. I keep yellin' "just get on with it".

Example:

"I really need to go to break, we're coming up on a break, and when we get back we'll get right to your calls...and we'll play you the interview I did with Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin, I'll let you hear those interviews, and we need to go to a break but it was very interesting what they had to say.....we need to go to a break and I've got calls coming in from all over the place so stay on the line, I really appreciate the calls coming in but we need to go to a break and we'll get to the phones right after the break and I'll also play you those interviews with the drivers. Very interesting. So Chad in Ohio, Pete in Oregon, and Sally in Nashville stay on the line we'll be right back...and your Dialed In."

And lastly (I think), I personally don't really care for replays of races. If it's not LIVE I don't bother listening.

I just wanted to add my thoughts in a separate post.

TMD is just terrible. And I agree with NWH, Pistol Pete plays second fiddle to Mike, but neither can really form an opinion worth a lick. But both are employees for Nascar and thus their opinions dont hold much water with me anyways. I dont need a Paid for by Infomercial about Nascar, brought to you by Nascar. What needs to change? Somebody who can shut Mike up more often, someone who can form an opinion and know what they are talking about, and someone who works for someone not connected with the France family.

Trading Paint is only good on Fridays with Steve and Buddy.

SS belongs in that spot. Its SNR's most popular show and its in the afternoon which has the most traffic.

It does need an overhaul, but im not sure what you can do about changing 14 hours of talk radio into something new. Talk radio is talk radio.

I agree with the OP about Pete Pistone. I think Pete has & will do great on the weekend shows, but the combo of him & Bagley in the mornings just doesn't work.

I've never listened to Tradin' Paint's first three hrs. Since Jan of 2006 I've listened to The Frank DeCaro show from 11am to 2pm. I have been catching the last hour of the show lately & I must say, they are doing a much better job than TMD. I'd be happy with a show swap :)

IMHO, Chocolate is 1000x better than he was when he started filling in on Fridays on the old Drivers Seat show

If it weren't for the time slot, I'd listen to TP a whole lot more :)

Sirius Speedway. Where do I start. I started listening to this show back in Jan 2006. I loved the show back then. I still love the show, but for some reason I just can't listen as much as I used too.

Moody seems to be short on the callers. Maybe he needs a vacation. Get away for a month or so during the season. He's been doing the show for almost 6yrs now, most of it non-stop.

CBL just needs a co-host. Plan & simple. She does an excellent job, but her show needs someone who will cut her off & take her to break on time. I think Bagley & CBL would make a great combo. Put them on middays :)

Pat Patterson's show is great. too bad he can't do mornings. I remember when he'd co-host with Poole when Marty was off. He always did a great job :D

Hmmmm, changes to 128 I might like to see during the off season.....

Limit the Stewies to only 12 replays a week so that it doesn't start to get on anyone's nerves. :yesshake:

TMD - Hard to know where to start with this show. I like both Bags/Pete but have a hard time listening to the two of them together day after day. The show is pretty predictable as far as opinions. After Pooles passing, they were going through their on air interview type process, they rotated guest hosts. I kinda like that. It kept the show a little more fresh from day to day. That may give fans more of a variety of opinions on the sport. I'd say to stick to mostly print media co hosts with Bags on a rotating basis. Occasionally, throw in a co host directly connected to the sport. There are many personalities to choose from in that garage area between owners/crews/drivers.

TP - I like this show and think that the hosts balance each other well. Good interviews. I like the trade out on Friday to go to Postman & Buddy. A good show IMO.

SS - This show needs to change nothing IMO. Its track record proves that. It is the staple to 128. Moody more ofter than not has unique perspectives on the sport. Many times I hear call after call droning on the same thing. I look forward to hearing what he's thinking. I had that same feeling with Poole too. IMO, there's nothing to change here, move along please.

LS - Alex and Buddy. These hosts compliment each other well. I can't see changing this show either.

DI - CBL is CBL. I've been listening to her far longer than Sirius has had a NASCAR channel. Her personality isn't going to change, nor is her reporting techniques. Like her or not, she seems to have the best access to the garage area and gets great interviews with the widest varity of perspectives. I'd change nothing with this show either.

MD - More Mojo please! Or..... would that be to much Mojo? I like him but I don't get to listen anymore.

Weekends - If anything needs changed here, more live programming. Perhaps 'Loose End's' is important to some people. For me, I've already heard it. I do like hearing from people going to the race because I wish I were there.

IMO they need to have overnight hosts/shows. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd guess that some of you guys/gals out on the road overnight wouldn't mind being able to call in and express you opinion. I'd think that there would be an audience for overnight shows.

To Sirius/XM 128's credit, they have a great list of guests/interviews every day and I like hearing the different perspectives. Many times it's said that these drivers and so on aren't allowed to express their opinions, maybe some of you just aren't listening.

List of daily guests/times here..... http://www.sirius.com/nascar

And lastly (I think), I personally don't really care for replays of races. If it's not LIVE I don't bother listening.

I love Pat Patterson on the weekends but I don't know if I would like hearing him on the weekdays. Not sure why. I guess because I would not have anything to look forward to on the weekends.

OK, here's an example.

It's now 5pm here and no more LIVE show. It's Loose Ends. And I guess they'll replay the race next. Why oh why can't there be a live show to call in to? I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Yeah, it's saturday and people go out. But a lot don't or can't for whatever reason.

One simple thing I'd like to see, On the display of the radio during a race, they can put the top 5 and what color flag is out, but no lap number? To find the lap number I have to switch over to one of the driver channels, which is sometimes not feasible being in and out the truck while i'm out working in the fields around here.

actually i never understood why they never put the top 10, but they can only put so much info on the pdt.

a simple solution to this, depending on what receiver you have, is to press and hold the disp button for about 2 seconds and this will put the receiver in channel list mode. use your down arrow to scroll down to one of the driver2crew channel feeds and highlight it. now to toggle between the channel name, driver name and lap info, press the disp button (do not hold it in) until you get to lap info. you'll still be able to listen to 128, but you will not see the top 5 positions.

to get out of channel list mode, just press and hold the disp button for 2 seconds and this will take you back to where you were originally.

hope this helps you out.

Yeah I do that with the NFL scores all the time, I guess what I was trying to say is that I don't need to know what flag is flying more than what laqp the race is at, at any one time. I've listened to races on MRN and PRN long enough to know when the announcers start going off on tangents or talking to in booth guests, except the past few years, that the race is under caution.

You know, I just remembered the time when Choc was on Mojo's show one night. They were great together. I say replace Rick with Mojo!

BTW, Mojo's commercial on why he loves nascar is the BEST!!!

"The Thunderous ROAR!" "Wheeeeewwwwwww!" :bigclap:

I miss Smoke! So glad he's doing the Stewies again this year.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's opinion and ideas. I really don't have anything specific for any one show, since I have found myself not tuning in as much lately. Here's some general suggestions/gripes :soapbox::

1. Commercials- Yes, I know that in order to pay bills, they have to have advertisers. But when I tune in to the radio and have a choice of 3-4 shows and all the music channels, I tend to tune to the one that isn't in commercial. And it seems like NASCAR is usually one I pass over. just sayin...

2. Online Channel- SiriusXM has created special online channels for comedy, special music events, etc., why not create one for the NASCAR talk shows? Some of us desk jockeys don't have access to satellite coverage for 8 hours a day and the reliability some receivers that record makes it hard to catch live shows and replays during the parts of the day when we have the time to listen.

3. Ok, this one is all gripe. One of the things that makes me change the channel is when some caller starts his call with "I'm going to stir the pot here" and say something outlandish about Jr. or Kyle, like they are some big rebel or something, and then the whole show is hijacked. Puh-leeze. There are more than HMS and Kyle Busch out there, and we get tired of hearing about them. No suggestion ion how to change this, unless they broadcast the person's address and invite people to go "put a pop knot on their head", but I don't think that's happening.

4. Bring back Smoke (and Ford Martin)- OK, maybe not Tony specifically, but a show hosted by a driver, crew chief, etc. Something not hosted by a "radio professional" per se. Tony always seemed to have fun and kept us entertained with his shenanigans. Since Tony seems to be busy with the team ownership deal, maybe we could get Harvick. Oh wait.... :p

Anyway, I'll get off the soapbox and pass it to the next person. Who's next? ;)

At least bring back a show hosted by a driver. Dale Jr, Jimmie Johnson and Tony were all great at that back in the day, and for some reason, they just dropped it.

I find myself more and more wishing for someone who's "outside the bounds" so to speak. Like Dex says so many times, someone not paid directly by nascar or MRN. I won't mention specific names but they are sometimes on Pat's show on the weekends or on Press Pass. It's really a breath of fresh air to hear a different view spoken of which a lot a fans can relate to.

How does it work @ SIRIUS/XM NASCAR Radio? Does NASCAR hire the on-air talent or does SIRIUS? I don't know.

What view does the host have to have to make people happy? I listen to all of the shows that I can on the channel and the hosts don't always agree with each other nor do they always agree with NASCAR so what am I missing here? Are we looking for hosts that bash NASCAR for everything, most things or just some things?
