Cadillac to offer Wi-Fi, bring YouTube to cars

The Internet is coming to Cadillac.

Starting next month, General Motors' luxury brand will offer optional dealer-installed equipment that allows people in and around the vehicle to use laptop computers and other devices to connect to the Internet, equipment provider Autonet Mobile Inc. said today.

Rear-seat passengers are the target users, said Autonet CEO Sterling Pratz.

"In the back seat they're basically going to YouTube, where they once watched DVD players," Pratz said. "Now every Cadillac CTS will come with the capability to have YouTube and Facebook in the car."

Practically EVERY Caddy I see is full of YouTube-watching Facebookers...

Do they make an AARP plugin for FaceBook?

I've already got the internet in my car. It's on my phone. Stop dicking around with nonsense and make a good car, Cadillac. You, too, Chrysler.

I could not agree more. Hey, car maker...you worry about the car. I'll worry about the technology. Just make sure your car has something my technology can plug into. Seems pretty simple to me.

If this is like the Chrysler system, (which I am sure it is) this is simply a 3G connection with a WIFI router mounted in the trunk. Service will probably be not much better than what you can get with your current cell phone.

This is just another gimmick to make a few extra dollars and to sell a few more cars. About as useless as OnStar.

That's the first thing I thought. What, was Buick not available?

At least put it in a Mazda3 or something popular with the demographic who's most likely to use this sort of thing. I wouldn't mind having it in my car for the reasons I listed previously, and I've actually considered a similar setup from Cartoys when I do get my own ride. But 3G works nicely in this area, too.

I see a really limited market for this unless they come up with a way to piggy back the plan onto your existing mobile phone. I have a data plan on my Blackberry. I'm not about to drop more money on having it in my car too.

Finally - mobile porn.
Just what we need, one more reason for people to keep their hands off the wheel.

Adds a new meaning to the phrase "Sex on Wheels"
