How long will it be before congress gets involved with nascar in some way?

They've done it with baseball and the NFL.......now there is some talk of getting involved in college football to force a playoff system.

And I can just see some politician wanting to score points with the tree worshipers and will starting making waves about nascar polluting the environment.

Sound crazy? I'm surprised it hasn't happened already.

Good things there's nothing else important for congress to worry about since they've already fixed the economy, successfully ended the two wars and solved the health care issues.
So now they can concentrate on this pressing matter. :shifty:

Are you saying congress wants to force a playoff system?

I heard guys on ESPN talking about it. I don't know who in congress is pursuing it but I do know that Obama has hinted at it.

(remember that members of congress sometimes use their power to help their alma mater)

I really didn't want to start a politics thread per se, but was just wondering when and if congress will stick their nose in this sport. I can think of several ways it could be done....or rather the excuse that would be used.

And I think it would turn this sport upside down in a heartbeat. And not just for nascar but for racing everywhere (all the tracks from coast to coast, etc.)

The only talk about politics and a college playoff was Obama saying he wanted a playof during the campaign when he and McCain were interviewed on Monday Night football

A couple weeks ago, I saw a headline that PE Obama wants to delay the conversion to digital tv. Mike, as your CIC, doesn't he have more important things to be worrying about?

I saw that too! Completely blew me away.

I mean, on one hand I'm with him....I never bought into this notion that we HAVE to go all digital. But on the other hand the stations from coast to coast have spent untold amounts to get rigged for it. Not to mention that people have spent money buying new tv's and converter boxes.

Your signature pretty much says it all. The more people want the govt involved the worse its gonna get. Our industry is a prime example, its all about money, not safety!:bigahh:

I'm just glad the DTV switchover is AFTER the Daytona 500. That way if something goes wrong, we won't miss our race LOL

Yes but it was actually a statement derived from one of Gerald R. Ford's speeches in 1974. It's a common mistake though. People try to attribute it to many politicians, including Regan and Barry Goldwater.

Many stations have already done the switch and turned off their analog signal. Some have even done it weeks/months ago.

Obama in his Socialist glory is saying not everyone can afford to buy the converters and the money for the coupons to get the converter free has dried up. He wants us to pay for eveyone to have a converter. Should be ever citizens choice, buy a converter or new tv and watch Tv or don't adapt and don't its your choice. Hope you all like sharing the wealth. yes he is my CIC andany orders military wise I will follow. I however do not hae to agree with his politics. Matter of fact MOST not all but MOST military flks are usually conservative republicans, as they pay us more LOL.
