Well Howard did examine Artie for white lips and found them to be normal.

Artie, for all his longshoreman humbleness, is a rather self-centered guy with a hard crust. Although he is generous with his money, he can blow off someone or put someone down brutally in two seconds without looking back. He once said that this is the nature of stand-up commedians. It's almost a prerequisite in his view. Gary doesn't have Artie's outer crust. He's pretty good taking criticism on the WUS but if the criticism gets pointed or goes on for a while, Gary goes over the top... talking over people and spouting shit like you're dead to me.

I used to love Artie but for me all this herion business has become so frickin' tireing to listen to. It just seems to go on and on and on.
And now that Artie has been found out as a total liar I find myself not really giving a shit about him any more. I mean, what comes out of his mouth that is truthfull? Who the hell knows anymore. I can totally understand why Gary is pissed, he probably feels like their friendship could just be more Artie bullshit. It's not like Artie couldn't pull something like that off being the habitual liar that he obviously is. And of course Gary now feels like an ass for sticking up for Artie in the past.
It's like Ned on Bubba's show, now that I know it is Manson doing a voice I don't find him as interesting as I used to.
When something or someone isn't real who really gives a shit?

I still love Artie. I still give a shit. I still find him interesting. Gary has got to step back a bit and think of Artie as kind of a mental patient and go with the flow.

How about instead of going with the flow they size the baby gorilla up for a straight jacket, now that would really be acknowledging his mental patient status.

Yeah, you're right.

Gary really cares for him (they all do), but in the end, Artie's gonna do what Artie's gonna do.

So let's see:

Artie lies all the times for self-preservation, but he's not a "liar".

Artie said that he didn't want Gary with him on the USO tour, and then a half hour later says he was lying. He did want Gary on the USO tour. However, nowhere in the previous two sentences did a lie take place, despite the fact a lie was confessed.

Wow. This all reminds me of that "Star Trek" episode where Spock tells the evil android that everything Kirk says is a lie, and then Kirk says to the android that he is lying, sending it into a logical loop, resulting in it's head exploding.

I don't know if you have ever had a friend that lies constantly, I have, and going with the flow with a friend like that can be very taxing. Eventually everything you feel about the person becomes tainted because of all the lies.
The guy I know will even lie about seeing a movie that he really didn't or what he had for lunch. Things that there is no reason to lie about. It's like a sickness or an uncontrolable impulse. It's pretty sad.
