Artie Lange Pleads Guilty to DUI

We've learned Artie Lange just pled guilty to one count driving under the influence of a habit-producing drug.

Cops say Artie -- who was pulled over in Tom's River, NJ on July 10 -- had a prescribed sleeping pill in his system when he got behind the wheel.

Lange was fined $664, his driver's license was revoked for seven months and he has to serve 12 hours in an intoxicated driver resource program.

Lange's lawyer, MIchael Grasso, says Artie pled guilty because "If we would have taken it to trial the interest of the media would have outweighed the best interests of my client."

Grasso also said the prosecution planned to call more than 10 witnesses and he would have had to counter that with a dozen witnesses of his own -- so the plea just made sense.

I didn't know heroin was a sleep aide.

HA HA HAAA!!!

And remember that he was pulled over and tested in the afternoon, so he might be using the "habit-producing" drug for other than its intended purpose.

Yeah, pretty steep for pills but I"m sur his numerous priors and admitted heroin addiction had something to do with it.

It depends on the type of medication, really. I don't think a drug like Ambien would show up on a drug test. I'm thinking he was on a benzo-type drug, such as Valium, etc., which would show on a drug test.

Too bad this will never be brought up on the air ever.

Even the last two weeks on the show he's been on something as he's been in a coma by the end of the show.

"If we would have taken it to trial the interest of the media would have outweighed the best interests of my client."

So he basically had no chance of winning. :shifty:

I called it from day one that he was abusing perscription drugs, and it wasn't going to be heroin or booze.

And in Artie's defense, I think he had made it clear back then that he still wasn't 100% "clean".

you sure? I can't remember 100%, but to me at least, he made it seem like it was big mistake, and that he WAS clean, and in the end he would be found not guilty.

He spoke like a politician and one could read between the lines. He said something like "I wasn't drunk and I wasn't on any Illegal substances" which seems to mean he was on Legal Substances.

You are correct. He was 100% clean at this point, from the heroin and subutext at least and had even earned back his cell phone priveliges from Helicopter Mike.

he guaranteed it was a mix up and would be found innocent. Oh well. Let's just hope he talks about on Monday but I bet he'll say that he can't because of the "plea deal" that was made.
