Any way to block certain forums from "New Posts"

I seem to recall the SBS political forum was "opt-in." You could scan for new posts about radio without encountering gasbag political attacks and without clicking forum to forum. It would be great to be able to filter certain forums automatically when scanning for new posts.

Thanks for a splendid board.

We currently have some things we are testing in regards to this. It's not so much an opt-in as you can opt-out from forums, or even particular threads if you wish. Give us a day or so to test it out and if all looks good we'll unveil it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I usually double click on the icon near a particular sub-forum that I'm not interested in reading. It marks all the threads as "read".

Of course, what you guys are suggesting would eliminate that step. :)

Thanks Aaron. That in itself is a great improvement while the DRC pit crew work on the filter.

Just to follow up on this. After testing it appears the changes are working correctly so I've enabled them for all the users.

You will now be able to ignore not just users, but threads that you choose, forums that you choose, and when/if we begin to use them, certain thread tags.

In order to block a forum, enter that forum you want to block (e.g. Political Mumbo Jumbo) then use the "Forum Tools" drop down menu to select the ignore forum option.

To block a specific thread, enter the thread you do not want to see, and use the "Thread tools" drop down menu to select the ignore thread option.

From the User CP you can see what forums/threads you have ignored and remove any that you no longer want to be blocked. Additionally from the User CP there is some advanced ignore settings that you may want to use that will hide the forums/threads that you have selected.

Thanks for the suggestion,
Dan

Thanks Dan as always, very good job!

This should satisfy everyone and now rather that us opt you out, you can just opt yourself out by ignoring whole forums. Those that were concerned about the Howard Forum while at work, can just ignore it all together.

Wow, lovin it. What a difference this makes in the whole tone of the board. I made the very same suggestion at XMF a couple of years ago, to hoots of ridicule. Thank You Dan for taking it up.
