Bring my Sirius boombox? Or not worth lugging it around.

Will I only get reception in my room for half the cruise when my side of the ship can see the northern skies?

What type of SIRIUS radio? Stiletto 100/2? Many cruise ships have wifi. Maybe tote a laptop instead?

I would agree with this. What kind of equipment are you talking about. I suppose if you don't mind carrying it around and you expect to be places you can listen to it enough to make it worth bringing it along.
If you do take it you should certainly let us know how well it works out.

Optionally I could come and sing songs to you and read various Sirius News updates from my phone. I've never been on a cruise.

It's just an old Sportster replay with it's big clunky boombox, and all those wires. So if reception is going to be poor, I won't bother.

I have a balcony on the top floor, but there still is a deck above us, so here's what I am thinkinking, correct me if I am wrong......

Sirius sats only broadcast from the north, and turn off in the south. So let's say my room is on the starboard side. When we are mostly heading southwest - west, I can see the northern skies. But on the way home, I'll be facing south and likely not get anything..

You won't be in your room much. Well, I have never stayed in my room unless I was sleeping, changing, or showering.

Have a great time! The Western is the best Caribbean cruise IMO. Are you going to Caracas or is that the Southern? I have done the Western, Eastern, and Southern and some of the stops are the same so I get confused.

As long as you are looking west and north, you'll be OK. If you are facing south or east, you'll likely get nothing. Antenna should be outside, rather than sitting in a window.

Enjoy the cruise...don't spend too much time in the room!! :Smiley_wink:

Unless.....:churn: bow-chicka-bow-bow.... :churn:

Then, by all means, please....go to your room. :Smiley_wink:

definitely for some of that.... but after those 10 seconds are over, we really enjoy hanging out on the balcony, in the middle of the ocean, very calm.. I always sneak in bottles of scotch and maybe buy some cubans on an island and just soak in the serenity. On a cruise longer than a few days, you need a little time away from the pubs every now and then...

I've done Eastern, Western and Bahamas.

This one is Freeport, Belize, Cozumel and Roatan.

Honestly, I enjoy the ship so much, I really could care less where it goes.

If I am on a seven days cruise, the very last thing I'd be thinking about is "how can I listen to sirius" just sayn:Smiley_wink:

Been on 2 cruises on the West coast, and rarely get much signal in my room even if our side of the boat faced west. When teh boat was docked I could get signal in the room when facing west. Took my starmate replay boombox, and spent some time listening while on the top deck out at sea. I'd take it, you'll likely be the only one on the ship with one.

Whoa!!!
The Steelers play a Thursday night game on NFL Network while I am on the cruise.
What's the chances the ship can get NFL Network? Probably ZERO.
I am DEFINITELY bringing the boombox!

The wife is going to be so hot for me that night, after I ditch her to go stare at my radio for 3 hours to listen to football. I can hardly wait for the naughtiness.

Hmmm...the game might be on ESPN International. What's the TV lineup on the cruise ship? I bet if there is a bar with some TV's in it, you'll get the game there...if not in your room. In that case, you and your lady can enjoy the game horizontally in the privacy of your cabin. Problem solved.

I've been on 2 Royal Caribbean cruises, and there really aren't any bars with tv's in them. You can get ESPN on your tv in the rooms, but that's about it. Just take it, you'll love it, and tell us how it went.

I have an XM Airware and I am also going to the Caribben in Nov. I thought that you had to physically be in the US in order to get reception? At least that's what I have read on other boards. Is it different for Sirius?
