Ladd to host exclusive daily free-form rock show

NEW YORK, Dec. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced today that rock radio pioneer Jim Ladd will host a daily free-form music show on Deep Tracks, channel 27.
(Logo: Login )
For the first time ever, Ladd's daily show will be broadcast to a national audience and will be heard exclusively on SiriusXM. The live show will air nightly starting in January 2012.
Ladd will continue to personally select all the music heard on his show, as he has done from the start of his legendary career on FM radio. He will also conduct regular interviews with classic rock legends that he has developed personal relationships with during his 40+ years as one of North America's most beloved rock radio personalities.
"I am thrilled to bring the Jim Ladd free-form rock radio show to SiriusXM. By joining SiriusXM, I will be bringing my 'free-form' show nationwide," said Jim Ladd. "Traditional FM radio has turned its back on the very thing that made rock radio the magical experience it was intended to be. SiriusXM is kicking down the doors of the stagnant, preprogrammed fodder that passes for radio today by encouraging me to do my free-form show so we can all share this experience live as it happens."
"I will be playing everything I want, from Pink Floyd to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, from The Doors to Moby Grape, freely and with no play lists. As I have always done throughout my career, I will be choosing all my own music, creating thematic sets, inviting the biggest rock stars in the world, many of whom I am proud to call my friends, to join me in the studio, and commenting on the world around us by using the most compelling music of our time. I'll also be taking phone calls from listeners all across America and instantly communicating with my audience through social media networks to help spread the word that true free-form rock radio is back and more powerful than ever."
"Jim Ladd is a classic rock radio icon who turned curating a list of songs into an art form. We are proud and excited to welcome his free-form style to SiriusXM," said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM.
Deep Tracks features deep cuts from classic rock. Listeners will hear artists like Bob Dylan, Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, Beatles (and solo work by John, Paul, George and Ringo), Rolling Stones, The Who, Steely Dan, Kinks and Steve Miller Band.

Deep Tracks is my favorite channel. I love the variety of music that is rarely or never played on terrestrial or other channels. Hate to hear this guy is naming all the big names that you can hear on any 'oldies' station.

Update- Jim maybe just doing promos starting Monday...shows start Monday the 13th. That is the turn of events...apparently sirius made changes, and the time zone lag caused confusion... He will be doing some promo sets and promo ads (as it were) all next week and the show begins the 13th at 4pm PST > 8pm.

Jim Ladd, known for his legendary career as a free-form rock radio personality, will debut on Sirius XM satellite radio Monday, Feb. 13.

Ladd was let go by Classic Rock KLOS-FM on Oct. 26. His only return to local radio was a one-time talk show Nov. 5 on KFI-AM.

"Jim Ladd on Deep Tracks" will air from 4-8 p.m. Pacific time starting Feb. 13, the day after the Grammy Awards. The plan calls for Ladd show promos to run on Sirius beginning Monday, Feb. 6.

Ladd will do his show in a studio he will describe as "high atop the Hollywood hills." The early start time is so listeners across the country can hear it live in later hours. There is also a possibility the four-hour program will be repeated in the overnight hours for Ladd fans in Southern California.

I used to listen to Jim Ladd on KLOS years ago if I was up late. It's good to see him on satellite radio now :)

What's gonna happen with Meg Griffin, it was here shift?
Good question- it's very unclear what the new schedule will be on Deep Tracks. Most of their weekly shows happen during Jim Ladd's new 7-11pm slot, like 'For Headphones Only', 'Undercover', Black Light Room', 'Buried Treasure'. It will be very interesting to see how they rearrange the schedule. Since this is my favorite channel, you can bet that I'll keep everyone posted when I get some updates.

I hope Meg have an other timeslot. I like hear shows and reminds me of the great WNEW NYC. B.T.W. the Deeptracks channel is a sort of reincarnation from WNEW with Pat St. John, Earl Bailey and Dan Neer.

B.t.w. the schedule from Deeptracks is a mess now. I hear a lot of double shifts. Earl Bailey do overnights and I hear im 6 hours in the morning. And I thought Meg Griffin wasn't there yesterday evening. Strange.

Let's flip Deeptracks in a total freeform station like the old stations WNEW FM NYC and WBCN Boston.

Has anyone listened to him yet? If so, what did you think? I listened to recorded content tonight on the way home. I liked him. He did a "Rockers Doing the Blues" type set and was good.

Sounds very good. But his music choice is not so different than the overall DeepTracks playlist. Maybe with some 'free choices' but overall it sounds the same as the regular DeepTracks channel. And I wonder is it live or not?

My favorite Sirius show was "For Headphones Only" . It featured "progressive rock".

Mon and Tues Ladd played Doors, Zeppelin, Beatles during that hour, same stuff I could hear on any free FM oldies station.

Last night Ladd had a talk show on during that time.

Today, "For Headphones Only" is no longer listed at siriusxm.com/deeptracks.

I thought Meg refreshed the DeepTracks channel when she joined it.

Ladd has watered it down.

I don't know if it used to be syndicated on FM, or if a local station had just borrowed the name and format, but I used to listen to that back in the day. I should have listened on Sirius.

I just asked Deep Tracks about that:

Me: I love the new lineup, but was wondering if 'Undercover', 'For Headphones Only' & 'Blacklight Room' have been removed?

Deep Tracks: We're just giving them a rest... what time do you think would be good to bring them back?

Me: Undercover- Fridays @ midnight
For Headphones Only- Saturdays @ 10pm
Blacklight Room- Sundays @ 10pm

Everyone who would like to see these programs return to Deep Tracks, please go here and make your requests: Sirius XM Deep Tracks - Wall | Facebook
