6 people are known to be dead at the moment, but they expect that number to go up.
It's an older building, so it didn't have sprinklers. It may have only had one exit stair too. You couldn't do that these days. They said something on tv this morning about the cladding and that the building was recently renovated.

In theory apartment buildings should have isolation layers to prevent/slow spread of fire between units. In Canada this has been in the codes since the 60s. Obviously not in this building. And several people have said no fire alarm much less sprinklers.
