So I heard one of the Sirius Jocks talking about how he thought LAST NIGHT, by the Strokes was one of the Top ten rock songs of this decade (I agree) and it got me thinking about it---what are the best rock songs of this decade?

Here are the Few that I have--continue to post yours and let the arguing begin!!!

In no order:

1. Last Night---The Strokes
2. Go With the Flow---Queens of the Stone Age
3. Somebody Told Me---The Killers

Wow. You have great taste in music.

However, I would reject the Cold War Kids, switch your Killers song to "somebody told me," change Radiohead Bodysnatchers to "Idioteque" and scratch Death Cab for Cutie.

But, judging by your list, you too are probably as awesome as I.

You get Rep points for that comment:bigthumbup:

And yes, my taste in music is pretty kick-ass, and I am pretty awesome:D

Awesome lists! I feel that I'm already late to the party with some of these great picks so far.

I'll throw out a couple -
Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - Maps
Modest Mouse - Dashboard
Foo Fighters - Let it Die or The Pretender (both sounded really darn good when I saw Foo Fighters live)

I am seeing lots of Alternative and Indie here, anyone care to weigh in on something more on the "harder" side of the rock spectrum?

Dude, you just told flap how awesome his list was but then told him you would change almost half his songs! Then you said you'd scratch Death Cab For Cutie but in an earlier post you told semipenguin you didn't know the song, and also that you were unfamiliar with "My Doorbell" by White Stripes. Both songs were quite popular, maybe not on top 40 but they got tons of airplay on the new rock and alternative stations.

Not trying top be a dick but I liked your original idea of people just posting their top 10 faves of the 2000's and letting the lists speak for themselves. Just my $0.02, peace and love, peace and love:smug:

I am not a fan of much of the music that came from this decade, but I'll participate.

Here are nine songs...leaving room for one more in case one comes to mind.

  • Tool - "Jambi"
  • Wolfmother - "Colossal"
  • Pearl Jam - "I Am Mine"
  • White Stripes - "Seven Nation Army"
  • Rage Against The Machine - "Calm Like A Bomb"
  • Incubus - "Just A Phase"
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Can't Stop"
  • Beastie Boys - "Ch-Check It Out"
  • A Perfect Circle - "3 Libras"

OK, I got it down to a baker's-dozen. This is hard for a few reasons:
- Some of my favorite albums (i.e. In Rainbows) don't have one "standout" track;
- A song's popularity or success seems to make me think differently about it;
- At times, I'd prefer other tracks over these, but I think these are more "for the ages", whatever that's worth.

New Wave - Against Me!, 2007
Doesn't Remind Me - Audioslave, 2005
E-Pro - Beck, 2005
God Put a Smile Upon Your Face - Coldplay, 2002
I Will Possess Your Heart - Death Cab for Cutie, 2008
Grounds for Divorce - Elbow, 2008
Times Like These - Foo Fighters, 2002
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day, 2004
Every Day Is Exactly the Same - Nine Inch Nails, 2005
Go With the Flow - Queens of the Stone Age, 2002
Optimistic - Radiohead, 2000
You Don't Know What Love Is - White Stripes, 2007
Woman - Wolfmother, 2006

I liked all of the BANDS that flapjackson liked (cept death cab)!

Maybe your right, just post your top ten with no more arguing but, the commenting on songs is the fun part.

I find it very hard to argue at all with most of these.

Love the Foo Fighters choice.

So far, and I love making these lists, here is what I consider to be written in stone for top ten rock songs. Your Submissions are awesome and please keep them coming. I agree with another poster that some of these bands may actually have better songs in some sort of weird way but there is just something about these songs that they are very multi-listening friendly. Like, if you were flipping and any of these songs came on, you would listen and totally jam to them at any given time.

No order:

1. Go with the flow--Queens of the Stone Age
2. Optimistic--Radiohead
3. Last Nite--The Strokes
4. Somebody Told Me---the Killers
5. Times Like These----Foo Fighters
6. Fell in Love With a Girl--The White Stripes

Clever move with getting the Nirvana song in on a technicality.

I was about to cry "foul" with the 'Warhols, then verified it released in 2000. If I had realized that, I'd have included it - awesome album.

Hate to bring the party down, but can we really omit these from U2?

Beautiful Day, Elevation - 2000;
Vertigo, City of Blinding Lights - 2004.

Also, what's the ruling on Coldplay? Pop or rock? Because they've had 3 mondo albums in this decade.
