The Emmitt Smith vs. Barry Sanders thread sparked some interesting discussion, so I thought this topic might as well.

Who are your top 5 QB's in the NFL right now, going into the 2009 season?

My list:

1a. Peyton Manning
1b. Tom Brady
3. Donovan McNabb
4. Ben Roethlisberger
5. Drew Brees

I give Manning a slight edge over Brady only because Brady played in just one game last season...I'm sure he'll be fine this season but you never know.

Aaron, do you think if the Chargers had it to do over again, would they still let Drew Brees go? Philip Rivers is a very good QB, but Brees has been a stat monster in New Orleans.

If Brees would have played better his first two years at San Diego, there would have been no need to draft Rivers, so New Orleans would have been in much worse shape now, then had Rivers not been drafted by SD

I'd take Brees over Rivers, but I think San Diego is doing okay with their decision. What's amazing to look back on is that college football genius Nick Saban, when he was coaching the Miami Dolphins, chose Dante Culpepper over Brees! :icon_eek:

If Matt Schaub can stay on the damn field this year, he might be in some people's top 5 when January rolls around. In 11 games last season, his QB rating was 92.7. Just needs to stay healthy.

McNabb keeps popping up. But I keep looking for the Irish quarterback for the Eagles but am lost.

Carson Palmer? He was getting in/near the top-5 territory before going out for the season. A year of not being knocked around might do him some good. Plus, he has the Browns twice a year to rack up big receiving yards.
