8th Dec 1980, John Lennon was shot five times by 25 year old Mark Chapman outside the Dakota building in New York City where John and Yoko lived. Chapman had been stalking Lennon for days outside the Dakota apartments and asked for an autograph as Lennon walked through the courtyard. As he signed a piece of paper Chapman fired. Lennon was pronounced dead from a massive loss of blood at 11.30pm. More: John Lennon shot

I remember that day. I got suspended from Jr High school. It's probably what kept my folks from killing me. The local radio station played The Beatles A to Z over the 3 days I was home.

I was 10yo. I didn't quite grasp the significants of who John Lennon was. I really didn't get into the Beatles until I was 20.

After learning more about John & the Beatles, I came to understand more of who he was & what he meant to music :)

We always had Beatles LP's around the house, and use to watch the movies on TV.
My mom had the Beatles Complete sheet music book. I learned to play Magic Submarine from it a year or two before John was murdered. I knew how much I liked the music, but just how much impact the had on music and our culture in general, was something I picked up a few years later.

Jan 19th 1967, The Beatles began recording 'A Day In The Life' at Abbey Road studios London, recording four takes of the new song. According to Lennon, the inspiration for the first two verses was the death of Tara Browne, the 21-year-old heir to the Guinness fortune who had crashed his Lotus Elan on 18 December 1966 in Redcliffe Gardens, London. What is your fave song on Sgt Pepper?

'Meet the Beatles!' was released 50 years ago today!

On Jan. 18, 1964, the Fab Four graced the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time!

Meet the Beatles! is the second Beatles' album released in the United States. It was the first US Beatles album to be issued by Capitol Records on 20 January 1964 in both mono and stereo formats. It topped the popular album chart on 15 February 1964 and remained at number one for an impressive eleven weeks before being replaced by The Beatles' Second Album, the first time that an artist replaced itself at the peak album position. The cover featured Robert Freeman's portrait used for the UK With the Beatles release, with a blue tint added to the original stark black-and-white photograph.
