Someone explain to me the appeal of sushi.

A new Japanese restaurant opened in town, and lots of my coworkers love the sushi. Some even love the sashimi... :icon_eek:

I've tried it 3 or 4 times now, and though it's not the worst food I could imagine, it's wasn't my favorite either.

You guys like sushi?

All depends on the place. There was a place called Kubos in Houston that was very good. The place across the street from me now isn't all that great. I took a girl over there on Sat. and got a "sampler" platter and it was like $75. Fark them.

Good sushi is expensive but should be good.

Bad, cheap sushi has the potential to be disasterous.

If anyone lives near a Wegman's, they have great sushi...at least the ones near me do.

I had sushi from Costco today, jury is still out on whether it was good or not. It didn't taste bad but it's a first time for me. Still belching up the aftertaste, though.

I love the stuff. Crave the roll!
It has to be from a decent place though.
(I was thinking about grabbing some for dinner tonight by coincidence, but am opting for pizza instead.)
It has to be fresh. I'll eat most of it.
The best I've eaten was at a place called Moki in San Francisco. There are 3 or 4 good places here, and a whole lot of em that are really blah.

Word of advice is start of with mild stuff like California rolls, crab, shrimp - all of which is cooked. then ease into a tuna or salmon roll. Maybe even go for Spicy tuna or spicy salmon. I didn't like sushi until the 3rd or 4th time I had it. My issue was that my friends had me eat all this hardcore sashimi stuff my first time!

Sushi is the food of the prententious and of the nouvea riche.

Have you ever heard a person say anything great about the SUSHI they are currently eating? NO. It is always better somewhere else.

To each their own but I do not get it at all.

Maybe, but that doesn't mean it tastes bad.

I've said great things about my favorite sushi. Sadly, my favorite sushi bar in Houston closed down, and my favorite sushi bar in the world is in San Francisco.

To each their own but I do not get it at all.

You mean you don't like how any of it tastes? That's not remarkable. Different people like different food.

I have Sushi about once a week. I absolutely love it. One of the best places I have been to for Chefs rolls is Sake Tumi in Milwaukee. It's not the best sushi I've ever had but it is the best place for chefs rolls. There is a place in Detroit that is almost as good as Sake Tumi but has a much better ambiance.

I drive a 12 year old Ford Escort, went to public school and love the sushi I'm eating when I'm eating it. If that's pretentious, pass the cognac and bring the Bentley round front Gyves. I'm off to the polo club for a Cohiba tasting.

PS you spelt pretentious and nouveau riche wrong. ;)

That's pretty narrow minded Vargas.
