I've been looking for a simple solution that would allow me to watch ripped DVDs on my TV without having to install a computer running Windows Media Center. I searched around and stumbled on this product:

SageTV® HD Theater - Enjoy your home media and online video on your HDTVs

I picked one up and it works pretty well. It can be a little buggy at times, but so far I am pretty happy with how it has worked. I have it on the router with my NAS so that it has a wired connection to my DVD collection. And it looks great on our 50" plasma. Plus it's really small and doesn't require all the work that a stand-alone PC would require.

What sort of digital home theater setups do you guys have? I really like the idea of having all my media controlled by a single box instead of having multiple players hooked to my TV.

I have Xbox 360s on my TVs, wired to my network. I use TVersity and PlayOn to serve stuff from my NAS. The NAS has a built in UPnP server, but I don't mess with it much because it can't convert on the fly. The Xboxes are sweet because they play movies and music from the network, play CDs and DVDs locally, and have been known to play a game or two as well.

Can the xbox play ripped dvds (vobs)? The thing that made me get this box was that it seems to support just about every video format out there. I will probably be getting another for the bedroom which is why I am asking what other people are using :).

I tried to add my MP3 collection to the SageTV but it apparently has a limit to the number of items you can have in your database (something like 30,000, or maybe it was 13,000) so I am using it only for videos.

The Xbox can't, but TVersity can. TVersity and PlayOn run on my desktop as UPnP servers. The Xbox just plays whatever they serve up. That includes Netflix, Hulu, loads of web video services, and even some porn sites.

Ahhh, gotcha. My NAS can run a UPnP server but I haven't messed with that yet.

Been watching movies with this box and so far I am very happy with it. Now I have a big box of DVDs that I need to rip. Now the nerd in me is crying out for yet another NAS to back up all these valuable VOBs...
