278. Summer of Drugs - Soul Asylum
This song was off the benefit album "Sweet Relief: A benefit for Victoria Williams". I bought it for the Pearl Jam song but found I really liked most of the other songs. I think I talked about this album more in when discussing a cassette I made based on this CD (AN).

277. MMMBop - Hanson
*ducks and covers* I don't want to like it -- I hate boy bands -- but it is damn catchy.

276. 29 Palms - Robert Plant
Another catchy song I am not ashamed about.

(as an aside I disliike the underline icon being hidden and hard to find)

Boy band lover!

I try never to listen to that one, or any other boy band songs from those years.

There are a lot of stupid songs I find catchy, like Pop Muzik and Safety Dance. But no boy bands.

I said right at the start:
And yes, there are some songs here which will likely generate some ridicule. Which is fine.
This probably won't be the last either.

275. I Go Blind - Hootie & The Blowfish
Nice catchy song. I like the 54-40 version too.

274. Funkytown - Lipps Inc.
Almost makes one want to dance every time you hear it.

273. Thunder Island - Jay Ferguson
The guy had 70s hair. Real cool song.

Since tomorrow is a travel day, here are the next 3.

272. Sundown - Gordon Lightfoot
Real cool song. I really hope to see him in Rochester in December but this seams unlikely.

271. Tubthumping - Chumbawamba
I have always wanted to order "a whisky drink, a vodka drink, a lagar drink and a cider drink" in a bar. But never have. This song was everywhere in 1997.

270. Pepper - Butthole Surfers
This song is weird which is why I like it.

Good boy!

Disco pants!!!!!!

We're doing the Pseudo Echo version. I like the edge the guitar adds to it while keeping the peppy groove.

I wish I had thought of that back in the day. #opportunitiesmissed

That's a great song. It's different and weird and just good.

277. MMMBop - Hanson

Definitely catchy, and I enjoy it occasionally as a guilty pleasure.

276. 29 Palms - Robert Plant

Good tune that's been long forgotten.

275. I Go Blind - Hootie & The Blowfish

I have always disliked Hootie, but for some reason I kinda liked "Tuckers Town".

274. Funkytown - Lipps Inc.

The quintessential guilty pleasure song! I love it too.

272. Sundown - Gordon Lightfoot

I like it. But I like this one even a little more

271. Tubthumping - Chumbawamba

I liked it. Got sick of it. Then re-liked it later, despite how little content there is to it.

270. Pepper - Butthole Surfers

Yep it's a good weird. I always wondered if they were inspired by Beck "Loser" to write this.

266. Tiny Dancer - Elton John
I may have to look at why this one is so far down my list. Seems like an oversight. Video is pretty cool. I first heard this song in a WKRP episode "The Americanization of Ivan".

265. Cover of the Rolling Stone - Dr. Hook
Or Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show as they were known at the time of this song. Cool song.

264. Ring My Bell - Anita Ward
A 1979 disco entry. I wonder if she regrets giving up here career as a school teacher for what turned out to be 1 hit? Video is one of the worst jobs lip syncing I have ever seen.

263. Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand - Primitive Radio Gods
This is a cool song with even a cooler name.

262. Crocodile Rock - Elton John
Another cool Elton John song

261. Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) - Robert Palmer
Another cool song. I think this was his first solo or at least the first of his I heard. He looks so young in the video. Different than Addicted to Love where he looks a lot older.

Yes and yes. That BB King sample is mint, and he used it so well. This guy may not have been a one-hit wonder if he could've gotten sample clearance on some of his other songs. I remember reading? hearing? a story many years ago about how this guy wrote a bunch of other great songs but couldn't get permission to use the samples in them.

262. Crocodile Rock - Elton John

Loved it when I was a wee lad.

261. Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) - Robert Palmer

This is what rock and roll is, was and is supposed to be.

Three winners from different parts of the spectrum.
Good songs.

260. Pop Muzik - M
Yes this is catchy. A guilty pleasure from 1979. Weird video too.

259. All Star - Smash Mouth
This song is still a favourite despite extreme overplay. Ben Stiller in the video.

258. I Got You - Split Enz
Not sure how to classify this. This was huge in 1980 in Canada at least. Never heard it on a Big 40 countdown so assume not so much in the States. I think they are British. Wrong. Australian.

260. Pop Muzik - M
Yep a quirky classic!
259. All Star - Smash Mouth
Another one of those songs I don't like but it seems everyone else on Earth loves. Same with "Walking On The Sun". Not my cup o' tea.
258. I Got You - Split Enz
"Sometimes we shout out out out out out out" Shoulda made the top 40 here in the US.

I love the verses. The chorus is good too but I've always felt like it almost belongs in a different song.
