I found this converter that is supposed to convert your HDTV to full 1080p if your TV isn't already 1080p like mine which is 1080i.

I don't think that converts anything if I'm not mistaken. Just looks like a adapter for the cable it plugs into. I have one of those on my computers graphics card. Mine is not that brand though. You can use that adapter on many devices that are HDMI compatible.

What doe's that mean?

It means it strips off HDCP ("High-bandwidth Digital Copy Protection", google it). This device lets you connect sources with HDCP (like a Blu-ray player) to displays that don't handle it (like most HDTVs built before 2006 or so).

If your TV is not capable of displaying 1080p, there is nothing you can buy that will make it display in 1080p (aside from a new television).

If your component is outputs 1080p, the picture will be down-res'd to something your TV can handle.

That's the answer I was looking for, thanks.

Unless you guys have CRT based TV's or an old Hitachi plasma, you aren't seeing 1080i at all. All fixed pixel displays made today are 720p or 1080p. Just because it will input 1080i doesn't mean it is 1080i (after all, 1080p sets will take in 1080i signals just fine). They simply take in the 1080i and convert it to the native 720p or 1080p resolution of the set.

1080i is good enough for me anyway.
My TV is 1080i also and the information that I "understand" is 720p/1080p should be used for sports and everything else is up to your personal desires. Normally I was watching everything in 720p which was fine but now that I started watching in 1080i for other than sports I'm very happy.

I've got one of the last Hitachi CRT RP sets made and I dread the day it dies. 1080i on my set looks better than 1080p on any flat panel or DLP set I've seen.
