Sirius & XM Set To Combine Channels Next Week

By Kevin Carter & Keith Berman

As America now comes together, basking in the post-election afterglow, Sirius and XM appear to be ready to do the same. R&R has now confirmed what we recently alluded to: Next Wednesday, Nov. 12 will be D-Day for channel realignment. As we speak, jocks and sweepers on both services are alerting listeners to channel moves going down that day. We expect most, if not all, format duplication will probably be eliminated at that time, so expect to see a bunch of channels disappear with the changes.

looks like they killed all of the XM rock channels and all of the XM Rap channels. This is very bad news.

I would hope that the PD's of the stations e.g. Kevin Kash would be hired by Slacker because if they were I think Slacker might just kill Satellite Radio.

So my old boss gave me his old XM receiver. I have two Sirius units. I wonder if it's even worth it to activate the XM receiver.

I would wait until the dust settles.

I had XM for over a year and the only channel that I liked better than what we had on Sirius was Fine Tuning.

If the talk stations stay as is, and we hear that some updates are coming, I might cancel one of Sirius and get XM with best of Sirius. That way I could get NFL Radio and Glenn Beck and Laura Ingraham.

I don't think Slacker is going to kill anything. I've never even seen one in any store yet. Also, I can't get basketball or football games on it, it's a music player. What's horrible is I can't barely get an XM signal here in my town now, for about the last 2 weeks. I have barely used the service in that time, and am seriously considering dumping it after the channel changes on Wednesday, why spend 17 bucks for a service that I already get on Sirius (minus NBA games) and can't even get a signal because tech can't fix a damn repeater?

I am so happy to see Doctor Radio coming to XM, I really do enjoy listening to the various programs on this channel. Radio Margaritaville and Elvis is just icing on the cake. :)

Yep, I'm anxious for Wednesday. Just bought a new car for the wife, with XM, and it's getting subscribed Monday morning when we pick it up!

But, on the downside, bye-bye SIRIUS...no need to be "dual" anymore!

Yeah I am excited too and I have not been for sat radio in a while.

But I am with you, I foresee that there will be some subs going bye bye for me too.

If you have an older XM radio what will happen? If you don't have a new radio it is so easy to find a good used radio for XM on the cheap. Will any of the older XM radios be able to do the ala carte or any of the $9.95 plans?

Congratulations, XM subscribers. You're getting the Worst of Sirius.

I LOVE many of those stations, particularly GD Radio, Radio Margaritaville, Jam On, E Street Radio and Underground Garage.

I'm really looking forward to the possibility of getting rid of my Sirius receiver in favor of my XM one.

Older XM radios will get the change just fine. Only SIRIUS radios have limitations with the amount channels it can "see". There are no XM radios that are "a la carte" capable. Only the Starmate 5 for SIRIUS. But, the "Mostly News", "Mostly Music" and "Family Friendly" packages, I believe, are available for ANY XM/SIRIUS radio.
