If they didn't JUST SAY from the 70s and 80s then I'd let it slide but IT EVEN SAYS 1992 on the radio!

They have played REM stuff from the 90's so it is not limited to the 70's and 80's.

Big Tracks on XM was always 1975-1995. Classic Rewind on Sirius before 11/12 played The Spin Doctors on occassion.

Just because a radio station advertises themselves as 70's and 80's doesn't mean that they're restricted to those two decades.

Hell, 1st Wave advertises themselves as 70's and 80's and I've heard a few 90's tracks on there ("Groovy Train" by The Farm and U2's "One" to name a few). They even play David Bowie's "Space Oddity", which came out in '69 but wasn't a hit til '72.

Yesterday, 90's on 9 even played "Maria Maria" by Santana, and it came out in 2000.

So why do stations do that? Simple: to keep things interesting, and those songs amazingly 'test well'.

A lot of people have this imaginary line from when classic rock starts, and modern rock begins...:shock:

Some people think that when Nevermind came out, it ushered out one era of rock and ushered in another.

It doesn't matter to me when rock becomes classic. Soon they're going to have to create a new channel that represents the CD Era...

I would say your beef would come if an artist was on Classic Rewind that you wouldn't associate with the frequently played artists. There really is no other channel for early 90s Clapton, or Peter Gabriel.

I've always wondered when the 90s music would get a "classic" label, or if a lot of it would just stay "grunge" forever.

Right...Clapton's music sort of spans both periods so, I could see some overlap there. It's sort of like a "Classic Rock" terrestrial radio station playing a newer Springsteen cut. Q104 does stuff like that here in NY.

I'm okay with '92 era Clapton on Rewind, but hearing "Change the World" from 1996 kinda bothers me. 1996 is too far removed from the late 70's & 80's to be on this channel, imho.

We had Classic Rock stations playing 'My Father's Eyes' which was 1998. Just like we had an 80's station that played new Go-Go's and R.E.M. tracks when their albums were out. It's common. I have never - however - heard the Spin Doctors on Classic Rock radio. Yet.

Forget the Spin Doctors, I started feeling old when the oldies station started playing the Go-Go's!

Hell as soon as 2010 comes around Nirvana will be played on oldie stations.
