Callahan co-starred on General Hospital (1984-85), Falcon Crest (1986-88) and Santa Barbara (1989-91). He played Edmund Grey on All My Children from 1992 to 2005. (The USA TODAY obituary misspelled the name as "Gray." For shame!) Eva LaRue played Callahan's love interest on the series and they wound up marrying in real life. Callahan also co-starred on Days Of Our Lives (2008-10).

The COVID-19 virus has claimed the life of another musician. Joan Jett had a number-one hit in 1982 with I Love Rock 'N Roll. Alan Merrill & The Arrows recorded it first, in 1975. Merrill, the son of jazz vocalist Helen Merrill, released 15 studio albums. He also played guitar on three Rick Derringer albums and wrote three songs for him.

Alan Merrill, Arrows lead singer and writer of I Love Rock 'N Roll, dies at 69

Phillips, born John Phillip Baptiste in Louisiana, had only one chart hit but it was a big one: Sea Of Love. He had written the song for his girlfriend, Verdie Mae. A gas meter reader heard him singing the song, suggested he record it and put him in touch with local record producer George Khoury. Sea Of Love reached #2 on the Hot 100 in August 1959. Phillips never married Verdie Mae, though. In 1978 he produced a new version of Sea Of Love for the Fire Ants, a group composed of five of his children.

Sea Of Love singer Phil Phillips dies at 94

While we're mentioning deaths and original versions of songs (and I posted the news of Merrill's death three days ago), I should note the March 27 death of Jamaican reggae singer Bob Andy. He was a member of the Paragons, who wrote and recorded The Tide Is High in 1967. Blondie had a number-one hit with the song in early 1981. Here be d' original version, mon:

Fountains Of Wayne has released five albums and 16 singles. Their biggest hit, Stacy's Mom, reached #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2003. Among their other hits are Radiation Vibe, Denise, The Summer Place and Red Dragon Tattoo. I'm starting to think we need a separate thread for all the celebrity deaths that are due to the COVID-19 virus.

Second. They're from where I'm from. Fountains of Wayne (the store) was featured on the Sopranos, it's where Tony met the Annabella Sciorra character. And of course, without Stacy's Mom, we wouldn't have JDs Mom.
