40. PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT - MEATLOAF
Other songs in the countdown were edited...but we had to listen to the totality of THIS?
36. 5-7-0-5 - CITY BOY
This week's "Hadn't Heard It In Forever" entry.
33. I LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE - ALICIA BRIDGES
The way she sings "Axx-shawn" will never not make me chuckle.
32. YOU NEVER DONE IT LIKE THAT - CAPTAIN & TENNILLE
Don't think I'd heard this one before, which is odd.
18. GREASE - FRANKIE VALLI
7. SUMMER NIGHTS - JOHN TRAVOLTA & OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN
4. HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU - OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN
"Grease" was just such a monster. I've never seen it, but I'm one of the few.
3. HOT BLOODED - FOREIGNER
I'm always surprised by how many of their rockers got this high on the charts. I would've assumed this was a big AOR hit, but not Top 40.
2. THREE TIMES A LADY - THE COMMODORES
Impossible for me to hear this without thinking of the Buckwheat/Eddie Murphy version.
1. BOOGIE OOGIE OOGIE - A TASTE OF HONEY
Interesting story on this, what with it being the 1st ever #1 song with a female lead guitarist & bassist. I would've just assumed the band was a bunch of session players, like 90% of the disco/dance "bands" of the era.
Overall, I was struck by the fervor for stuff that had a 50's flavor to it this week. Makes sense, with the being the heyday of "Happy Days" etc.
