There is no logical reason why The Captain & Tennille should change their name when they record a song in Spanish. Can you imagine Spanish-language recordings by Stevie Maravilla, Los Águilas, Noche de Tres Perros or Gladys Caballero y Los Pepitas?

Shadow Dancing, which features harmony vocals by Barry Gibb, was Andy Gibb's third consecutive number-one hit, following I Just Want To Be Your Everything, which topped the chart for three weeks in July-August 1977 and returned to number one for one week in mid-September, and Thicker Than Water, which was number one for two weeks in March 1978. Gibb's record – no pun intended – of being the only solo artist to reach number one with his first three singles stood until 1990-91 when Mariah Carey's first five singles went to number one. The first group to reach number one with its first three singles was the Paul Whiteman Orchestra with Whispering, The Japanese Sandman and Wang-Wang Blues in 1920. The Jackson 5 topped the chart with their first four singles in 1970. In the United Kingdom, the Spice Girls' first six singles were number one hits, 1996-97, and Westlife topped the UK chart with their first seven singles, 1999-2000. Wooh!

34. LOVE IS LIKE OXYGEN - SWEET

If you like 70's rock/pop & don't have at LEAST a Sweet greatest hits album in your collection, I dunno what to tell ya.

31. HOT LOVE, COLD WORLD - BOB WELCH

Hadn't heard this one in FOREVER. My wife didn't remember it, but after a couple verses I was able to figure out the singer was Welch. Of course, this one doesn't get played like the other 2 bigger hits from that album, cuz terrestrial radio is a stupid. I just checked Amazon, thinking I could get this album on CD cheap. $12? Get bent.

22. MY ANGEL BABY - TOBY BEAU

Another one I hadn't heard in a gazillion years. It's more olden-timey doo-woppy than I remembered, but that makes some sense since the country was nostalgic for the 50's at the time.

21. THREE TIMES A LADY - COMMODORES

I can never hear this one without hearing Eddie Murphy/Buckwheat's version "Fee Tines A Mady". Hi, I'm old.

18. I CAN’T STAND THE RAIN - ERUPTION

#3 in the "hadn't heard it in forever" triumvirate.

9. IT’S A HEARTACHE - BONNIE TYLER

A Washington Post/ABC News poll shows that 96.3% of Americans still think this is a Rod Stewart song.

Overall, a REALLY entertaining countdown for me, as this was riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight when I was starting to really pay attention to pop music & the charts.

I had that Steve Martin album when I was like 8 years old. I barely remember it, but I had it. Maybe it was borrowed? Or actually my mom's and used to sneak it into my room?

2. Agreed on "I Can't Stand The Rain". I actually don't recognize it except for the hook... and barely.

Love Means (You Never Have To Say You're Sorry), the #40 song, was adapted from a line in Erich Segal's 1970 romance novel Love Story and the 1970 movie adaptation starring Ryan O'Neal and Ali McGraw. The original line is "Love means not ever having to say you're sorry." Sounds Of Sunshine was George, Walt and Warner Wilder, three brothers from Los Angeles. They released eight singles under that name. Between 1954 and 1974, they released 20 singles as The Wilder Brothers. Love Means, written by Warner Wilder, was their only Hot 100 chart hit. It reached #39 in July 1971. On the adult contemporary chart, Love Means got to #5 and in November 1976 their vocal version of Nadia's Theme peaked at #46. Here is Nadia's Theme:
