1. SHADOW DANCING - ANDY GIBB
Shadow Dancing, which features harmony vocals by Barry Gibb, was Andy Gibb's third consecutive number-one hit, following I Just Want To Be Your Everything, which topped the chart for three weeks in July-August 1977 and returned to number one for one week in mid-September, and Thicker Than Water, which was number one for two weeks in March 1978. Gibb's record – no pun intended – of being the only solo artist to reach number one with his first three singles stood until 1990-91 when Mariah Carey's first five singles went to number one. The first group to reach number one with its first three singles was the Paul Whiteman Orchestra with Whispering, The Japanese Sandman and Wang-Wang Blues in 1920. The Jackson 5 topped the chart with their first four singles in 1970. In the United Kingdom, the Spice Girls' first six singles were number one hits, 1996-97, and Westlife topped the UK chart with their first seven singles, 1999-2000. Wooh!
