Basic Cable

Anyone else enjoy basic cable? For $10 a month I get ABCHD, NBCHD, FoxHD, MYTVHD, PBSHD, and FoxHD, plus ESPN, TBS, ION, TWC, Style, Oxygen, Vs., National Geographic, Universal Sports.

Even with the limited channel selection I seem to find something to watch every night, and with the money I save I can pay for 3 sirius subs and a Netflix subscription :bigthumbup:

I have Comcast. I have their basic cable package plus HD package. It runs me about $30/month. Granted I don't watch TV and would probably drop it entirely, except I don't have any other high speed options other then cable. The price of cable alone is almost the same as the bundle price.

I have expanded basic which includes WGN America, the ESPN's, Fox Sports, BTN and CNBC. That's good enough for me. The package also includes broadband service. The others in the household use the cable. I prefer listening to XM or Sirius and using the broadband on the labtop. I have Netflix too, for five years. I like the unlimited instant viewing. The library is getting bigger and more current. Between hulu and netflix, I have access to lots of good TV and films.

So I returned it. Seems to me with the TV's on the market today. Digital cable should be a standard at a cheaper price. Just ditch the analog cable.

I have to agree. I was under the impression that HD locals were supposed to be included in Comcast's basic cable's price of $15. Apparently not. I guess it's ComCRAPstick.

I have digital plus a DVR. DVR's are SO addictive. You'll get used to it and find yourself trying to pause real life.

I pay $12.99 for about 13 channels. Mostly broadcast, Fox Sports South and TBS (but no ESPN or National Geographic). It's still an analog signal.

I'd drop the cable for HD broadcast but can't get reception at my apartment. Broadband's $29.99 for 1.5 mbs. Cox is the monopoly here.

I'm at 18 bucks a month with 13 channels I think it is. I've pondered the idea of trying a HD antenna to see how it works. Possibly drop Suddenlink completely. I've been told I can pick up a good signal with the HD antenna. Can't stand cable companies. With the way TV technology is. Analog should be dropped. Digital service should be the standard at a lower cost then what it currently is.

I forgot the analog to digital transition is happening soon. I'm thinking since I live in a smaller place. I may want to add a TV tuner card to my computer. Can't decide if I want a separate TV, or if I just want to use my 19 inch wide screen computer monitor. Not long ago a picked up a smaller size HD TV. The picture was lousy with the analog cable. So I returned that TV, and continued to use my tube TV. The picture quality really varied from channel to channel with the HD TV. The two or three digital channels looked really good, but the other channels not so good. The digital transition in Feb 09 will resolve that issue, right ? My basic analog cable will become basic digital cable. So picture quality will look much better on a new TV, correct ? I wonder what will happen to my basic cable bill ? Up, down, or stay the same.........

What? The digital transition is for over-the-air broadcast. It has nothing to do with cable or satellite.

So analog cable is not being eliminated by this Feb 09 transition. I guess I am not understanding it. I thought over the air, and basic cable was both becoming a digital signal. That analog would just be history :scratch:. If I'm wrong I may consider getting rid of basic cable after all.

The transition has nothing to do with cable. Over-the-air broadcast is controlled by the FCC. Cable is privately owned.

Time Warner Cable

I returned one of my cable boxes (Still have 3) this week. I like the idea of saving 8 bucks a month. I hardly ever used it in the kitchen as I would usually listen to XM radio anyway. I can still get a few channels without the box. (Fox Sports Net for the Reds games!)

If it was not for my son and Mrs. goreds2, I would have only basic cable.

I ran a splitter from the living room box to the kitchen. What's on in the living room, is what's on in the kitchen. It works out really well at no extra cost.

I watch the Reds games while I am cooking etc. Plus, I am close to the fridge where the beer is at.

How else are you supposed to recreate the fridge scene from 9-1/2 Weeks without a telly in the kitchen?

I think the bathroom is about the only room we don't have a set in.

I just pause movies if I have to leave the room.

I kind of like keeping the TV imprisoned in its own room. For 25 years I owned one TV, located in the TV room in front of the couch. When I got hitched last year my wife wanted a TV in the bedroom, so now we have two.
