Apple News Conference on the iPhone 4

Discussion in 'iOS, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch' started by DAB, Jul 16, 2010.

Basically they ran a 15 minute clip about how other phones even on other networks have this attenuation issue. So, this is just normal guys! LOL

However, because Apple loves us all so much they are giving us a free bumper. Any color you want! And hey, if you already purchased one. In a week or so, they will tell you how to get a refund.

No REAL admission that there is a hardware problem, No REAL solution to the action problem. But the bumper does work, so that is the solution.

I am so pissed, I JUST submitted a return request on my iPhone 4 via Apple.com. I just called Verizon and ordered a Droid X.

Nah... I am just kidding! I have lost a bit of confidence in Apple today and you can bet your ass next year, I won't be doing a pre-order for the next version or will I? hehehe Tune in next June to find out!

    jef Power Pig, Hello!

Well, to be fair, I think they actually tried to say that it was a hardware problem with all phones rather than just with their phone. Didn't stop me from ordering one for the wife today either :D

Hmm, makes me wonder if I will wait for iPhone 5 to get a new one. This 3GS is working out nicely. And I just ordered a case for it (and not because of reception issues without it. :D )

I am still waiting on my iCubes, those are glow in the dark Apple Ice Cubes! They go great with the Apple Kool-aid :)

I think they are being very careful on this because of the pending lawsuit. "Anything you say can and will be used.." type thing.

With that said, the "through Sept 30th" thing makes it sound like they may be planning to introduce a variation of the phone that does somehow fix the problem without the need for the bumper or case. Thoughts? IIRC, Jobs said somewhere that they didn't like to talk about future products until the current product is nearly sold out. In other words, they don't want to stop current sales while people wait for the next model. Anyone else hear this?

Also, to clarify what DAB said, you have your choice between a case or a bumper. Apparently they can't make that many bumpers in the next few months.

Overall, this DOES fix the problem but I don't think it was the fix many were hoping for. It does give the haters more ammo against Apple though. So I guess it can't be all that bad. I've heard that any press is better than none.

He also announced the iPhone 4 will be released in Canada at the end of this month, including this new problem solving case.

I love their BS PR crap. It's like if you get pulled over for speeding on the freeway, and you say to the cop that you were just keeping up with the flow. It does not change the fact that you were speeding.

Apple touted its antenna system as revolutionary. What they are saying now is that it's not. At best, it's average to plain out defective.

I really want this device to succeed. I'm a Blackberry guy, but I've messed around with the new iPhone 4, and it's a truly beautiful device. Feels good in your hand, and it's user interface is awesome. I can't stand when companies aren't straight with their customers.

What makes you think the device isn't or won't be a success?

    Ehilbert1 Ooh-Rah!!!!

This was my favorite part of the press confrence.

10:41AM Q: I can't get my Bold to drop right now, maybe you can show me how to do it?
Steve: You may not see it in certain areas. Thats a good one. I laughed my ass off.

I don't think RIM, HTC and others liked being thrown under the bus like that. I have a few friends at work that have Blackberrys. Not one of them got that to work. This is with them covering almost the whole damn phone. I've never had that happen with any of my phones either. So do you guys really believe what Steve was saying? If he would have taken that guys Bold and made it happen that would of really helped his BS statement.

RIM co-CEOs pull no punches responding to Apple's antenna statements -- Engadget

I really have no dog in this fight like others point out, but when Steve says all smartphones have this problem he is dead wrong. I'm not in no way bashing Apple. I'm just giving my opinion. I like most of you use a case so I would probably keep my phone too. Then again I don't know. I don't understand how their can even be a lawsuit. If you don't like the phone take it back? Really how hard is that?

Oh, it is and it will. People will be burned by it, but the device will continue to sell well. None of the other anti-customer stuff Apple does seems to hurt sales, why should this? They are loved and worshiped. Their customers will grumble, forgive them and move on.

They have short-circuited capitalism with fanaticism.

The iPhone 4 is a nice phone -- even with the defect. Given that I will use it with a case, I have no quams about buying it.

I believe what Steve was saying was partially true but mostly a smokescreen. It's PR. PR is used to make the company look as good as you can under bad circumstances and better under good circumstances.

Steve Jobs is just trying to make it through this obvious miscue on Apple's part with the least amount of expense and damage to it's reputation. Just like everyone does when they make a mistake.

With that said, what do you guys think Apple/Steve should have said or done?
