I travel a lot. I'm not out overnight all the time but I drive about 800 miles a week. I have two subs---one for me and one for my wife. She too is a Stern fan.
She called me today and asked if I was listening to Howard and I said yes and she started laughing out loud at the song they played before Robin's News (played to the tune of who let the dogs out..."ROBIN GET YOUR TITS OUT........BOOBS, BOOBS, BOOBS, BOOBS") and I realized that we on this board are probably the most hardcore of hardcore fans that listen to the entire show and then break it down minute by minute. If you asked my wife she would describe herself as a "big fan" but she probably only gets about 20-30 minutes to listen per day.
Most people aren't like us...they don't record or sit by their radio's for 5 hours a day to hear an entire broadcast. they listen sporadically and talk about what they heard that day in that segmented time span.
This may seem like common sense to most people but I think most of this board forgets that most of the 6 or 7 million people that listen probably only hear about 20-30 minutes.
My brother is the same way. He has a 15 minute commute and tells me that the Stern show is better than ever. I may disagree, but you have to look at that point of view and give it something.
