I really don't like AGT but I have hardly given it a chance. I find it hard to watch. I would appreciate it if someone who likes AGT and thinks Howard makes it better expound on it a little. I know it can be hard to explain why someone is funny but thst's what we often try to do here. ( I l do like it it that Howard is backed up by a Howard audience)

Hmmm.. This is really a complaint thread disguised as an honest quest for knowledge. Nothing is going to sway me. Feel free to ignore it.

I wish I could help but I haven't seen much. From what I saw he made it more entertaining from a Howard Stern fan perspective but, at the same time, I think he's a horrible judge. I'm sure people who aren't HS fans think he has hurt the show, depending on their opinion of Piers. I say he's a horrible judge simply due to how much he hyped himself. If he didn't say a word about AGT I may not think he is as bad as I do.

There are no redeeming qualities for AGT or shows like it. It's just crap they use to fill the airwaves.

...because it's better than repeats of dramas over and over again throughout the entire summer. It gives people something to watch.

Howard's job is to be a judge and to give his opinion. His "other jobs" if you want to call them those are to:

1) Make the haters realize he's not all about the radio schtick he's known for.
2) Turn people in to AGT who normally wouldn't watch.

He's certainly judging. I think he's starting to make the haters realize he's not all about being "some mean old guy on the radio who makes women take their clothes off" or whatever.

...naturally, his opinion will differ from those of the viewers.

As far as the hype? That comes with the territory. The real interesting thing to see will be if he CONTINUES to hype it many years down the road (if he still is doing it then.)

I watched an hour of the first episode. Recorded the second episode, but ended up deleting it before watching it. I decided there are way too many shows on my TiVo and on netflix that I could watch instead of wasting my time on awful shit like AGT. Sharon is scary to look at after all that plastic surgery.

Wow, I feel very much the same way. I think a week ago I said I'd watch the 2 downloaded premiere episodes on the weekend; when the time came to do so, I couldn't do it. I may try again this weekend, time permitting.

From what I have seen in clips and ads, Howard right now is super-generic. He's new, so maybe that's to be expected. I assume by the end of this season he'll have hit his stride and not say things like "City X has a lot of talent," or "Don't quit your day job," and actually be witty and kind of a scene-stealer.

I feel bad for Howie Mandel, it was kind of his show, and now it feels like he's on the outskirts. No one's even talking about him again.

If I had the power to revamp the show, here's what I'd do:

- Murder the editor, replace with an award-winning editor.
- Each judge has to talk for approx. X number of seconds, a la So You Think You Can Dance.
- No Nick Cannon shots DURING the act. Show him interview the talent BEFORE and AFTER. Again, like SYTYCD.
- Have the occasional/weekly guest star. Either as a judge or to perform onstage. Maybe they already do this. Sell it as "inspiring" the hopefuls and as a treat for the live and home audiences.

All of these things will make the show "tighter" and probably increase overall ratings, imho.

Some of the ladies I work with that watch this show all say the same thing..... "He's not as bad as I thought. I kind of like him". Trust me some of these ladies hated his guts for some unknow reason. If Howard's plan was to change the minds of women like that he is succeeding.

Now I also have to ask because I can't seem to figure it out. Do you guys hate Howard? Do you hate that he is on AGT? I know we all hate he is only on 3 days a week but thats a given. I just still find it funny that so many of his "fans" either hate him or put him down constantly.

By the way I missed you guys!!!!!

I don't hate him. I'm indifferent. I can (now) take him or leave him and have opted for the latter.

Where the hell have you been, btw?

I love the "natural" Howard - Howard riffing and holding court on the show. I don't care for the "unnatural" - Howard away from the show (except for road trips and press conferences) speaking in an unnatural loud voice . So when Howard brags all morning about how good he is on AGT and everybody around him tells him how great he is, it's tempting to criticize the unnatural Howard.

"Hater" is the most misused word on this forum.. Most often it is used against hard core fans (actually Howard lovers) who criticize Howard. Howard does the same thing. All criticism is hate and all critics are haters.

I'm on another forum where a guy jumps on the "anti-Howard bandwagon" whenever he gets a chance and tries to troll the threads, etc.

The funny thing is that he pointed to the week when the show went up against all those finales, including the House series finale and said that "Oh, Howard couldn't do it. He's irrelevant."

Yup. He's so irrelevant that an anti-Howard "hater" is going into a Howard thread and trolling.

I wasn't going for the "hater" comment. I actually though some of you guys might really hate him. It's not just this forum but it seems like everyone criticizes Howard for everything nowadays. No matter what the guy does. It makes for some good reading though because you guys are dead on with a lot of things!

Yeah, I'm with you on that. I actually have been liking him more now that I download and cherry-pick the portions of the show that I listen to.

It really is understandable when hater/true fan status is questioned when some threads start off as positive then quickly turn negative at the OP's own hands. (I'm not thinking of any particular example, just generalizing. ) On the one hand I totally understand what people miss about "the good old days" or whatever you want to call it, but on the other, I still can't figure out how soo much energy can be focused on the ( for lack of a better word) hate. It doesn't seem healthy. Hyson is an example of someone that seems to have taken a more logical approach to it. Not to pull a Howard, but...... I took a lot of psych classes in college, and some of these things fascinate me.

Glad you're doing better Ehil! Missed having you around.

I imagine that a lot of it is due to the subscription that is required to listen. Yes, you can listen to other stuff but I'm sure some people feel entitled to a "good show" when paying for it.

I was thinking the same thing. I bet that's why people get so pissed. People are still paying the same amount and getting way less shows. So the few shows we do get people want the best and really deserve the best. Great post man!!!
