Does Mel deserve a 250,000 per year raise?
Absolutely.

Here's a good article I found (courtesy of SiriusBuzz.com):

Mel Karmazin Extends Contract Through 2012 - SiriusBuzz

At least he's committing himself even more to the companies future. With all of that stock going into his portfolio, it really does work out to be a performance based incentive.

But really dood, stay clear of the tanning booth. Really.

mel deserves a raise for seeing satellite radio merged together so that it has the possibility of surviving once these monster contracts are up. BUT he should take a cut on that raise because 1) it would be a symbolic gesture after the price increases and 2) the stock price of sirixm dropped under his watch. while nearly not as important as the financial industry ceo's getting huge bonuses and raises while financial markets burned and their businesses collapsed, seeing the head man get a raise while his company isn't doing so hot don't seem right to me.

so in the end mel deserves a raise of 250,000 and should also be docked pay for seeing shares of stock plummet. a loss of 250,000 seems about right.

Bingo. I think the classy move would be to refuse it. Or at the very least he can re-invest the extra money in shares or debt.
