Default 'Car Talk' duo calling it quits

After 25 years on the air, NPR's chatty Car Talk duo is finally putting on the brakes.

NPR says Tom Magliozzi, 74, and his brother, Ray, 63, announced today that they will stop making new episodes of Car Talk at the end of September, NPR's blog Two-Way reports.

The Saturday morning chat show about cars features the real-life Boston mechanics bantering about automobiles, car repairs, or whatever else is on their mind.

"My brother has always been 'work-averse,' " says Ray, 63, in explaining the move. "Now, apparently, even the one hour a week is killing him!"

"It's brutal!" Tom adds.

You could put Howard Stern's name in there and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

That's sad. Car Talk has been one of my favorite shows for almost 20 years now. God, I feel old.

Why don't they get prisoners to answer phone calls & call that "Car Talk"?

Well, there goes half of NPR's good shows

I loved car talk, I used to listen to it in the days before I had the sat rad, and even when I had the SL2 I would record it to listen for my commute.

I can see NPR replaying the "classic" shows over and over.

The only sure thing is change. This has been one of the best shows on radio forever and I will miss it. Like BMF, it's been a long-time favorite of mine for about 18 years!

My dad used to listen to this all the time when I was little and it was always on in the car and his garage . I heard it again a few years ago while on the city bus. and it made me miss it. Its not a favorite show of mine, but it holds a special place.
